Advertised Job Summary
The University of South Carolina's Athletics department is seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to join our team as an Associate Director/Academic Advisor. This pivotal role will provide comprehensive academic advising and support to student-athletes, guiding them through course selection, registration procedures, degree requirements, and career goals. The Associate Director/Academic Advisor will also serve as a crucial liaison to other academic advisors across the university and perform duties as assigned by the Senior Associate Athletics Director of Academics.

Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 5 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree and 3 years of related experience preferred.
  • Collegiate experience is strongly preferred; experience with student-athletes is highly desirable.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with students, professors, peers, and parents.
  • Ability to prioritize work tasks and handle multiple tasks quickly and efficiently.
  • Ability to work with culturally diverse students and stakeholders.
  • Ability to interpret and apply NCAA, SEC, and University academic eligibility rules and regulations.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

Job Duties
  • Serve as academic advisor to assigned student-athletes, providing guidance on academic performance, course/major selection, developing a graduation plan, time management, goal setting, career planning, and effective learning strategies.
  • Maintain student-athlete eligibility in accordance with University of South Carolina, SEC, and NCAA standards, rules, and regulations.
  • Serve as a liaison between student-athletes, coaches, faculty, and other university academic support services.
  • Maintain regular verbal communication and written status reports to coaches regarding academic issues and concerns of their student-athletes.
  • Cultivate and maintain sustainable working relationships with student-athletes, coaches, and staff.
  • Develop and evaluate team academic success plans each semester.
  • Generate appropriate academic reports and summaries as required each semester.
  • Meet with prospective student-athlete recruits to provide an overview of available academic services and communicate the department's philosophy and mission.
  • Participate in departmental and university committees as assigned.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the Senior Associate Athletics Director of Academics.
