The University of South Carolina is seeking qualified applicants for Assistant Director of Communications and Public Relations positions. This position will serve as the primary communications contact for men's & women's track & field, and cross-country, and the secondary communications contact for football. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Promote the assigned sports through traditional media relations means, including pitching stories, press releases, notes, previews, and recaps, using Adobe Creative Cloud products.
  • Develop and implement an overall content strategy for internal channels - social media platforms and official athletics website - for the assigned sports, working closely with creative media and marketing departments.
  • Liaise with creative media department to ensure all scheduled events have photo and video coverage.
  • Develop working relationships with all constituencies of assigned teams – coaching staffs, student-athletes, sport supervisors, support staff, local, regional and national media.
  • Ensure accurate statistical, data and photo archiving of the assigned sports. 
  • Maintain and upkeep the assigned sports pages on the official website of Gamecock Athletics, GamecocksOnline.com
  • Coordinate the publicity efforts to direct media attention toward student-athletes and coaches being considered or nominated for special awards or recognition.
  • Supervise the press operations for the assigned sports. Ensure that an adequate staff of student assistants are assigned specific roles and are available to assist with media and social media coverage of the home events.
  • Report statistics and award nominations to the conference and national offices.
 
Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations or a related field. A minimum of two years of collegiate or professional sports information, media relations or public relations experience required; Candidates should possess excellent communication skills with an attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy. Ability to work on deadlines. Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud products, photography, videography and/or Genius software is a plus. Applicants should possess a sound knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations as they pertain to athletic communications along with NCAA approved statistical procedures. Ability to work nights and weekends and travel with assigned sports when required.
