POSITION:            Business Office Intern (Fall) 
DEPARTMENT:       Business Office
REPORTS TO:           Controller; Director, Business Operations & Staff Accountant
STATUS:                Internship, Unpaid 
 
 
SUMMARY:   This is an exciting opportunity for an individual interested in a career in Accounting or Finance.  Intern will observe, learn, and develop skills necessary to explore career opportunities within the chosen field by collaborating closely with the Business Office’s Accounts Payable and Receivable department. Individual may qualify for college credit if allowed by their college/university. This position is an unpaid internship.
 
LEARNING EXPERIENCE
Intern will learn and be exposed to:
·         The financial and accounting acumen of a major non-profit sports and event organization
·         Detailed and hands on operations of a Business Office
·         Business, social etiquettes and techniques to  develop and enhance business communication skills
·         Interact and engage professionally with individuals through verbal and non-verbal communications and networking to build trust
·         Positive team building and teamwork behaviors
·         Exposure to the tracking, scanning and entering purchase orders, expense reports, filing of contracts, certificates of insurance and other pertinent documents
·         Acquire knowledge of account reconciliations
·         Acquire effective skills in performing banking transactions (i.e. check deposits, inventory control etc.)
·         Participate in performing special projects within the Business Office and the Human Resources departments
·         Assist with inventory control of programs, souvenir helmets and sponsor tickets
·         Learn the inner workings of the front desk receptionist functions (i.e. answering phones, receiving packages, assisting guest/visitors, etc.)
·         Other opportunities as may be available
 
PREREQUISITES 
·         Pursuing a degree and/or career in Business, Accounting or Finance
·         Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and typing skills
·         Ability to lift a minimum of 20 pounds
 
Note: Preferred commitment of a minimum of 20 hours a week consistent with academic demands/schedule.
