The Executive Chef will lead the Utah Jazz culinary staff to execution of all meals and food service at the practice facility, ownership kitchen and game day operations. The Executive Chef will collaborate with the Director of Performance Nutrition to fulfill athlete needs. Direct report - Director of Performance Nutrition and VP of Nutrition, Culinary and Hospitality.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Be an innovator and creator 
  • Mentorship for a group with diverse backgrounds and skill sets 
  • Mentorship for culinary interns
  • Create culinary staff schedules 
  • Manage online ordering system for guest orders
  • Menu creator, including but not limited to: a la carte, buffet, action stations, meal prep, VIP special events
  • Cultivate a trusting environment with athletes   
  • Ensure meals are made and packed for delivery to ownership office and family home (Provo, UT) 
  • Assist in implementing specific dietary needs regarding allergies, intolerances, dietary restrictions, and recommendations from the Director of Performance Nutrition
  • Oversee locker room game day action station; implement prep for the station
  • Daily leadership of culinary staff including but not limited to meal execution and operational needs; manage sous chefs, cooks, dishwashers, temp workers
  • Facilitate good relationships with our vendors
  • Specialty product procurement; ie: grocery store runs, Amazon orders, etc
  • Ensure product is received and put away in a timely manner
  • Assist with culinary education for nutrition staff
  • Oversee daily kitchen operations, cleanliness, organization, ordering and prep progression
  • Recruit new candidates and conduct interviews
  • Conduct disciplinary action as needed and biannual performance reviews
  • Assist VP of Nutrition, Culinary and Hospitality with special events and any ownership needs
  • Help create an environment of excellence
  • Be able to communicate in various environments (i.e. sports medicine, executives, ownership, players, kitchen)
  • Utilize effective communication with staff, including electronic communication (email, slack, etc)
  • Help plan nutrition and culinary staff outings (team building, holiday party, etc.) 
  • All other duties as assigned by Owner, Head Coach, General Manager, VP of Nutrition, Culinary and Hospitality, Director of Performance Nutrition
  • Uphold all Utah Jazz Performance Nutrition standards daily
  • Protect the reputation of the company

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 10+ years in kitchen/hospitality
  • 5+ years management experience
  • 2+ years sports experience
  • Servsafe Certified

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • This person must be able to communicate and express themselves both written and verbally.
  • This person must be able to observe, inspect, estimate and assess.
  • This person must be able to sit, stand, bend, walk, and climb stairs for long periods of time. 
  • Be prepared for long hours and stretches - up to 80 hours weeks in season
  • This person must be able to lift 20 lbs.
