Pacers Sports & Entertainment is seeking a forward-thinking Basketball Systems Developer to lead the development and maintenance of our basketball data infrastructure and internal web applications for the Indiana Pacers. This role is central to our data strategy, supporting decision-making across basketball operations by transforming raw data into actionable insights and intuitive digital tools.
This position will collaborate with departments across the organization—including the front office, basketball analytics, sports performance, IT, and external vendors—to add new data sources and maintain a robust data ecosystem that powers everything from player evaluation to performance tracking.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Data Infrastructure & Engineering
- Design, build, and maintain scalable ETL processes to extract, transform, and load data from multiple sources into centralized systems.
- Integrate and manage data from third-party vendors and internal sources.
- Ensure data cleanliness, consistency, and reliability across platforms.
- Implement data governance, security protocols, and access controls.
- Data Strategy & Management
- Shape and evolve the Pacers' data architecture and long-term strategy.
- Create documentation and standards for data integrity and system interoperability.
- Develop deep expertise in how basketball data is stored, accessed, and utilized across the organization.
- Web Development & Visualization
- Develop modern, user-friendly web applications for internal use.
- Translate complex datasets into interactive dashboards and visual tools.
- Use technologies like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Python to build responsive interfaces.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with basketball analytics and operations to understand data needs.
- Support strategic initiatives by delivering timely, accurate data solutions.
- Work closely with IT and external partners to ensure seamless data integration.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

- Bachelor’s degree in Information Science, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field. Graduate degree is a plus.
- 5+ years in Data Engineering or Data Systems
- Advanced proficiency in Python and SQL.
- Strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript.
- Familiarity with APIs, SFTP, SMTP, and web scraping.
- Experience with Git for version control.
- Experience with cloud architecture such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
- Comfortable working in Linux/Ubuntu/WSL environments.
- Experience with the following tools and frameworks is highly preferred: Databricks, Dagster, Azure data systems, Flask, PrimeVue, TypeScript, Nuxt
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical teams.
- Ability to learn and use new computer programs quickly and efficiently.
- Ability to scope projects.
