The Indiana Fever Team Nutrition Manager is responsible for the oversight and execution of sports dietetics and food services for the Indiana Fever, including managing all facets of player nutrition to optimize performance and health. This includes creating individualized diets for each player, maintaining records of dietary interventions, and communicating player progress to team management. They will also be responsible for nutrition education for players utilizing various methods.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills are required to maximize player performance and maintain healthy two-way communication with various internal and external stakeholders (sports performance staff, coaching staff, team physician, etc.).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Counsels athletes on optimal nutrition for exercise training (match nutrition to training phases and goals), competition, recovery from exercise, weight management, hydration, immunity, disordered eating, travel, and supplementation.
- Counsels athletes on achieving and maintaining a level of body mass, body fat, and muscle mass that is consistent with good health and good performance.
- Provides personalized meal and snack plans to promote achieving short- and long-term goals for athletic performance and good health.
- Develops and counsels in hydration protocols.
- Addresses nutritional challenges to performance, such as food allergies, bone mineral disturbances, gastrointestinal disturbances, iron depletion, and iron-deficiency anemia.
- Counsels athletes on optimal nutrition for recovery from illness or injury.
- Evaluates nutritional supplements, including herbal supplements, for legality, safety, quality, and efficacy; monitors use of appropriate supplementation.
- Collaborates with the individual’s family, physician, coach, and other health professionals, as appropriate.
- Documents nutrition services provided and evaluates the effectiveness of nutrition strategies towards meeting desired outcomes.
- Educates and mentors dietetic interns and others as appropriate.
- Develops and oversees nutrition policies and procedures.
- Oversees weekly bodyweight and body fat testing.
- Responsible for the ordering of all supplements.
- Manages the fueling stations at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, which includes cleanliness and inventory replenishment.
- Coordinates/manages quantity food production and distribution such as developing and managing training table menus and catering.
- Coordinates nutrition for domestic and/or international travel, for example, catering, hotels, airlines, competition, for individuals and teams.
- Manages budgets for purchasing and distribution of nutritional supplements.
- Develops and delivers nutrition education for food service personnel.
- Develops and delivers nutrition education presentations, demonstrations, or events on various topics related to nutrition for performance.
- Plans menus for training table and team travel.
- Recommends appropriate pre-, during, and post-exercise fluids and snacks for individual training, team practice, and competition.
- Provides individual nutrition counseling as needed.
- Serves as a nutrition resource for coaches, basketball staff, and food service personnel.
- May conduct in-home cooking workshops and educational supermarket tours with players.
- Maintains dietetic registration and continuing education requirements.
- Develops and implements an individualized portfolio plan for professional growth and development including participation in professional organizations and activities, workshops, seminars, and development programs.
- Stays abreast of current food, nutrition, and health issues and research related to sports nutrition.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings, weekends, holidays, and team travel.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a science or related major, Registered Dietitian credential, some experience working as a nutritionist in the field of sports performance at the college or professional level. Valid driver’s license.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret instructions and reports. Ability to write reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from manager, clients, customers, and the general public. This position requires a results-oriented professional with excellent relationship building, teaching and technical skills. Must be able to clearly communicate goals and motivate others to be compliant.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.) and general data entry. Ability to learn new systems and adapt to new technology.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Knowledge to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as making change, analyzing costs, figuring statistics, and making area and liquid measurements. Ability to perform calculations and use formulas and measurements involving the human body and its physiology.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret directions and technical diagrams. Ability to interpret directions.
