The Senior Director of Player Health & Performance will oversee the health, medical, and athletic performance department for the Indiana Fever. They are responsible for providing professional athletic training and physical therapy care for Fever players and staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversee the medical and athletic performance department for the Indiana Fever, including the full-time sports performance coach, athletic trainers & physical therapists, massage therapists, nutritionist, chiropractor, and interns.
  • Provide clinical care, based on the clinical evidence paradigm, to the players including but not limited to initial examination, diagnosis, evaluation, treatment, monitoring and prevention of injuries.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of pre-season, in-season, post-season, and off-season screening, testing, and examination.
  • Responsible for identifying individual clinical treatment and rehabilitation strategies, goals, prognosis, and timelines based on the best clinical evidence.
  • Supervise and coordinate with the performance coach regarding the year-round strength and fitness needs of the Fever players and allow for greater continuity of care with the sports medicine area and the coaching staff.
  • Serve as the direct point of contact for all team physicians, surgeons, nutritionist, sports psychologist, massage therapists, etc., and communicate with player agents as needed.
  • Coordinate scheduling of sports medicine and basketball-related activities during in-season and off-season workouts, practices, and games in conjunction with coaching staff including physicals and testing.
  • Work closely with the team nutrition manager for daily player nutrition.
  • Assist with pre-draft and free agent player evaluations.
  • Order, stock, and pack medical supplies.
  • Maintain cleanliness of training area, evaluation room, and basketball courts.
  • Lead in the facilitation of the day-to-day operations of the sports medicine department.
  • Maintain state licensure and certification as a physical therapist and athletic trainer.
  • Comply with all WNBA standards and protocols.
  • Adhere to all team and WNBA standards for clinical documentation.
  • Maintain WNBA and HIPAA standards for confidentiality regarding all matters pertaining to the players and the organization.
  • Must have the ability to work a flexible schedule that will include nights, weekends, travel to away games, and potentially holidays.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s degree and Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree required.
  • 5+ years of experience as a certified athletic trainer (head or assistant) in a professional or NCAA Division 1 basketball setting including work with female athletes required. 10+ years of experience is preferred.
  • Must be qualified to obtain both an athletic trainer and physical therapist license in the state of Indiana.
  • Must be an NATA certified athletic trainer.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must maintain annual or biannual CPR/AED training as required by the state of Indiana, WNBA, and NATA.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret instructions and reports. Ability to write reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from manager, clients, customers, and the general public.

COMPUTER SKILLS:
Employee should have knowledge of Microsoft Office (including Word and Excel) and general data entry. Ability to learn new systems and adapt new technology.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Knowledge to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as making change, analyzing costs, figuring statistics, and making area and liquid measurements.

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret directions and technical diagrams. Ability to interpret directions.
