A quick summary about the role:

The Orlando Magic Events AV Supervisor plays a key leadership role in delivering high‑quality audio‑visual support for all events held at the Kia Center, Advent Health Training Facility and other Orlando Magic facilities with a focus on courtside/game production.  This position is responsible for coordinating and executing AV operations for a wide range of event types, including Orlando Magic games, Solar Bears hockey, Osceola Magic games, Orlando Pirates events, concerts, and other corporate hospitality events. The Event AV Supervisor ensures that all department protocols, standards, and procedures are consistently upheld by both full‑time and part‑time Event AV Technicians.

This role is critical in supporting team success, maintaining operational excellence, and ensuring every event is executed with the highest level of technical quality and professionalism.

What the role will do:

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee, guide, and collaborate with Full‑Time and Seasonal Event AV Technicians to ensure consistent, high‑quality event and game‑day/event support.
  • Manage and direct the workflow of Part‑Time Event AV Technicians during events, providing real‑time supervision, task delegation, and performance feedback.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide direction and operational leadership for Event AV services supporting Kia Center events, ensuring exceptional service quality for Orlando Magic, Orlando Solar Bears, Osceola Magic, Orlando Pirates, and all third‑party events.
  • Partner closely with the Assistant Director of AV Services to plan, evaluate, and elevate AV operational standards, technologies, and support models.
  • Oversee game‑day AV operations for Orlando and/or Osceola Magic, including managing NBA‑specific technologies such as Swiss Timing Tissot systems, Daktronics All Sport controllers, Precision Time systems, and related league‑mandated workflows.
  • Ensure the highest level of quality of service is facilitated in support of Kia Center and AHTC events while maintaining safe and organized work environments at all times.
  • Lead AV support for small and large‑scale corporate conferences, meetings, and presentations held throughout the venue and affiliated properties such as the AdventHealth Training Center, Magic Carpet Aviation, and CNL offices.
  • Lead, mentor, and evaluate a diverse team of full‑time, seasonal, and part‑time Event AV Technicians, ensuring consistent adherence to SOPs, event workflows, and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with the Scheduling Coordinator to ensure proper staffing levels for all events, identifying skill gaps and recommending staffing adjustments as needed.
  • Manage the AV Requests portal, ensuring timely and accurate fulfillment of hospitality and internal event needs on both game days and non‑game days
  • Direct and coordinate AV setup, execution, and strike processes across multiple event types, including sports, concerts, corporate events, VIP hospitality, and off‑site activations.
  • Serve as a technical resource for Audio & Video Engineering teams, supporting the integration and operation of specialized equipment in Kia Center and AdventHealth Training Center
  • Coordinate with external vendors for equipment servicing, rentals, purchases, and technical support, ensuring cost‑effective and timely solutions.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting and diagnostics on complex AV, broadcast, and arena technology systems, including intercom, IPTV, lighting, projection, and networked AV systems.
  • Work collaboratively with departments including Special Events, Live Entertainment, Corporate Partnerships, Basketball Operations, and others to deliver AV solutions that meet event objectives and expectations.
  • Ensure excellent communication with event managers, and internal stakeholders to maintain clarity on event requirements, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Operate PC and Mac platforms with video projection systems.
  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of AV control systems such as Crestron/QSC Q-Sys, ensuring system reliability and proper configuration for events.
  • Maintain oversight of AV equipment status, coordinating regular inspections, documenting deficiencies, and managing repair workflows.
  • Manage installation, testing, and termination of audiovisual/data cabling, ensuring all infrastructure is organized, labeled, and up to professional standards.
  • Operate spotlights, lighting equipment, and technical systems as needed for events.
  • Track inventory of consumables including batteries, cables, power supplies, and accessories to ensure consistent event readiness.
  • Perform light repair, preventive maintenance, and system adjustments as required.
  • Execute additional duties as assigned to support department and organizational objectives
What the role needs to have:
  • Minimum of 4 years of professional audio/video technical experience in live events, broadcast, or venue environments.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent professional experience required.
  • Strong customer‑service orientation with the ability to support internal and external clients professionally.
  • Advanced knowledge of audio/video principles, live event setups and sound reinforcement techniques.
  • Working knowledge of analog and digital audio standards, along with general equipment maintenance best practices (strongly preferred).
  • Previous experience in arena or large‑venue environments is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to operate audio consoles (4–48 channels); experience with Yamaha QL and DM3 series consoles is a plus.
  • Proficient in video signal connectivity, including fiber‑optic, SDI, and HDMI termination.
  • Experience with IMAG production, truck dock production interconnectivity, IP‑based video distribution, and RIEDEL/CLEAR‑COM intercom systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and strong general computer skills.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines, multitask effectively, and perform well under pressure.
  • Strong organizational, time‑management, and attention‑to‑detail skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment and effective decision‑making abilities.
  • Strong ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects while supporting multiple high‑level stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while demonstrating initiative and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, including those outside of direct supervisory responsibility.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Willingness and availability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays based on event and departmental needs.
  • Knowledge and practice of proper two‑way radio communication etiquette.
  • Strong teamwork skills with the ability to contribute to a positive, cohesive team environment.
  • Ability to work all Magic home games plus a select number of non-Magic events. This includes the ability to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends and be on-call as necessary based on the changing priorities of the department.
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office products and other related computer skills required.
