PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Performance Coach is responsible for implementing comprehensive strength and conditioning programs for the Las Vegas Aces and leading collaboration related to performance methodology and program design. This role supports sport science monitoring and testing initiatives and oversees daily athlete supplementation in collaboration with nutrition providers. The Performance Coach works closely with all members of the Health and Performance Team to deliver athlete-centered, individualized, and evidence-informed programming that optimizes athlete resiliency, readiness, rehabilitation, and long-term development.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Implement strength, conditioning, and performance training programs during the in-season, off-season, and preseason, aligned with the mission, vision, and pillars of the Health and Performance Department.
- Collaborate with Health and Performance staff to support athlete resiliency, readiness, rehabilitation, and performance across the full athletic continuum.
- Assist with individualized athlete profiling, testing, monitoring, periodization strategies, and the design of strength, power, speed, and conditioning programs.
- Lead methodology for pre-practice and pre-game on-court preparation to maximize performance while prioritizing athlete health and safety.
- Serve as the primary in-house liaison for daily nutrition and supplementation needs in collaboration with the contracted dietitian.
- Support and co-develop sport science practices, including subjective and objective athlete monitoring and regular testing of physical performance metrics.
- Foster strong collaborative relationships with Health and Performance staff, coaching staff, contracted providers (e.g., nutrition, sport psychology), and basketball operations personnel.
- Design and administer preseason, in-season, and off-season testing batteries to support athlete profiling and performance assessment.
- Provide evidence-based recovery strategies and athlete education for both home and travel environments.
- Uphold and enforce professional behavioral standards within the weight room and training environments.
- Participate in weekly staff education sessions and tri-annual after-action reviews with the Health and Performance Team.
- Maintain detailed, accurate documentation and records of athlete programming and performance data.
- Oversee equipment maintenance, ordering, and provide budget recommendations related to performance equipment needs.
- Travel with the team per the WNBA schedule and fulfill all job responsibilities during away games and team travel.
- Assist in the development and delivery of educational curriculum for interns within the Health and Performance Team.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Nutrition, or Human Performance.
- Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification.
- Must hold at least one of the following certifications for a minimum of three years from the date of hire:
- Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) – National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA)
- Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) – Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa)
- Other formal strength and conditioning certifications may be considered with WNBA approval.
- Minimum of three years of experience as a strength and conditioning professional in collegiate or professional athletics, or in the private sector working with professional athletes.
- Requires flexible working hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, in line with the team’s schedule.
- Requires travel with the team for away games, camps, and competitions
- Proof of eligibility to work in the United States
- Valid driver’s license
PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- USA Weightlifting (USAW) Level 1 certification.
- Master’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Nutrition, or Human Performance.
- Knowledge of and experience with Pilates, yoga, and mobility-based training interventions.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Proficiency in basic computer applications, including Excel; experience with performance software preferred.
- Experience using athlete monitoring and performance technology (e.g., force plates, load monitoring systems, athlete management platforms).
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with athletes and multidisciplinary team members.
- Exceptional communication and listening skills with a relationship-centered coaching philosophy.
- Passion for athlete education, empowerment, innovation, and continuous learning.
- Strong organizational, time-management, and documentation skills; highly detail-oriented and self-motivated.
