The 3-time WNBA Champion Los Angeles Sparks are seeking a Youth Basketball Coach to join our organization! The ideal candidate will foster a safe, positive, and inclusive culture that reflects the four core pillars of the Sparks. This individual will help athletes develop fundamental basketball skills with an emphasis on growth, teamwork, and sportsmanship, while creating a fun and engaging environment for all participants. The Youth Basketball Coach should demonstrate strong leadership, practice planning, and player development abilities, while serving as a mentor who guides athletes through both athletic and life lessons. This is a part-time/seasonal, non-exempt position who will report under the direction of the Manager, Community Relations and Youth Basketball.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan, organize, and execute basketball curriculum and practice sessions aligned with JR Sparks program objectives.
- Lead and support the skill development and growth of participating players
- Design and implement training and development strategies that enhance both individual and team performance
- Coordinate and facilitate clinics, camps, and tournaments
- Monitor and maintain the discipline and conduct of athletes to ensure a positive and respectful environment consistent with JR Sparks values
- Build and maintain positive relationships with athletes, parents, Sparks staff, and community members
- Serve as a positive role model and mentor for all participants, promoting teamwork, integrity, and sportsmanship
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the goals and operations of the JR Sparks program
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Comprehensive understanding of basketball fundamentals, coaching principles, and player development
- Awareness of youth engagement, safety, and inclusive coaching practices
- Familiarity with organizing clinics, camps, and tournaments
- Strong organizational and planning abilities to effectively lead practices and events
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for connecting with athletes, parents, and staff
- Creativity in fostering an engaging, positive, and growth-oriented learning environment
- Ability to mentor and motivate youth athletes while modeling teamwork and sportsmanship
- Ability to adapt to changing schedules, priorities, and environments while maintaining professionalism
- Self-directed, reliable, and able to manage multiple responsibilities
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum of 2-3 years of basketball coaching experience, preferably at the youth, high school, or collegiate level
- Demonstrated knowledge of basketball fundamentals, skill development, and practice planning
- Proven track record of creating a positive, inclusive, and safe environment for athletes of all skills levels
- Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
- Reliable transportation required
This is a part-time/seasonal, non-exempt position compensated at $20 per hour.
