Job Purpose: The Dallas Wings Sports Scientist & Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach supports the Dallas Wings Health & Performance Department by assisting with the planning, delivery, and evaluation of athlete performance, workload monitoring, and return-to-play processes. This role integrates applied sports science, performance training support, and data-informed decision-making to ensure alignment across medical, performance, coaching, and basketball operations staff. 
 
Working directly with the Strength & Conditioning Coach, and Director of Sports Medicine & Player Health, this position contributes to daily safe, effective, evidence-informed athlete preparation, readiness monitoring, and performance optimization in a professional basketball environment. 
   
Primary Duties / Responsibilities:   
Sports Science & Athlete Monitoring  
  • Develop and support end-to-end workflows for athlete performance tracking, including the collection and organization of data from wearable technologies, athlete management systems, strength and power testing tools, rehabilitation metrics, and practice and competition activity.* 
  • Establish and maintain standardized processes to review, verify, and consolidate data from multiple sources to ensure accuracy, consistency, and timely availability for staff use.* 
  • Assist with applied analysis examining relationships between workload, readiness, fatigue, recovery, injury risk, return-to-play progression, and performance outcomes.* 
Performance Data Analysis & Reporting 
  • Support the creation, upkeep, and monitoring of performance dashboards and visual summaries using platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools to provide actionable insights to performance, medical, coaching, and basketball operations staff.* 
  • Synthesize performance data into clear, practical takeaways that inform training planning, recovery strategies, competition preparation, and player availability discussions.* 
  • Communicate performance observations and data-informed insights to senior staff as directed. 
Performance Training & On-Court Support 
  • Assist with the delivery of daily strength, conditioning, mobility, speed, and recovery sessions.* 
  • Coach athletes on proper technique, movement quality, and training intent to ensure safety and effectiveness.* 
  • Support individualized program modifications based on athlete readiness, injury status, positional demands, and workload targets.* 
  • Assist Head of Strength and Conditioning as needed. 
Sports Medicine Collaboration 
  • Support modified training and return-to-play programming under the direction of athletic training and physical therapy staff.* 
  • Assist with objective testing, documentation, and tracking of return-to-play benchmarks.* 
  • Maintain consistent communication regarding athlete restrictions, progressions, and availability. 
Interdisciplinary Communication & Operations 
  • Participate in Health & Performance meetings related to athlete availability, workload planning, and weekly objectives.* 
  • Coordinate daily training logistics and scheduling with coaching staff as directed by the Head Strength & Conditioning Coach.* 
  • Support basketball operations administration with performance-related documentation and reporting needs.* 
Technology, Research & Department Development 
  • Assist with setup, calibration, maintenance, and organization of performance technology systems.* 
  • Support vendor communication and troubleshooting for athlete monitoring technologies. 
  • Remain current on applied sports science best practices and contribute to evaluation of new monitoring tools or metrics.* 
 
Game Day Duties/Responsibilities:  
  • Assist with the delivery of strength, conditioning, mobility, speed, and recovery.*

  • Must be available to attend all home games for Dallas Wings, as well as attend most community events.  Games & events may take place on nights, weekends, and/or holidays.

This position reports to: Director of Sports Medicine & Player Health, will partner with Strength & Conditioning Coach

Job Requirements:   
  • Formal Education & Relevant Work Experience:   
    • Bachelor's degree in Sports Science, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Biomechanics, Data Analytics, or related field (required). 
    • Master’s degree or higher in Applied Sport Science, Human Performance, Biomechanics, Analytics, or Data Science highly preferred. 
    • 3+ years of applied experience in a professional or elite sports organization, preferably within basketball or a comparable team sport. 
    • 5+ years of demonstrated experience contributing to performance science, analytics, or multidisciplinary health and performance initiatives, including project ownership, workflow coordination, and cross-departmental integration. 
    • Strength & Conditioning certification (e.g., NSCA-CSCS) 
    • Sports Science certification (e.g., NSCA-CPSS) preferred. 
    • Experience with athlete monitoring technologies (e.g., VALD, Kinexon, Plantiga, GPS/IMU) 
    • Extensive programming and data-analytics experience and ability to work with coding languages and tools such as Python and/or R, SQL 
    • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary team environment. 
  • Work Location & Hours: Work is performed in the office and/or at one of the arenas as determined necessary by the Company. Must be available to attend all home games for both Dallas Wings, as well as attend company events. Games & events may take place on nights, weekends, and/or holidays.*    
  • Travel Requirements: Possibly required to travel to away games; trips may require air travel and/or overnight stay for one or more nights.

Physical Requirements* 
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up 50–75 pounds on a regular basis. 
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move continuously for extended periods, including during practices, training sessions, and games. 
  • Ability to set up, break down, transport, and oversee performance technology equipment, including wearable systems, force plates, testing tools, and related hardware. 
  • Ability to assist with moving and organizing strength and conditioning equipment  
  • Ability to work in indoor and outdoor training environments, including exposure to varying temperatures, noise levels, and travel conditions.
