The Chicago Sky are looking for a highly motivated and experienced PR Coordinator to assist in maintaining and upholding the public perception of the team and assist with external and internal communications strategies. This role will serve as a liaison for various stakeholders, including the team, front office and media. In addition, this role will assist the Senior PR Manager in day-to-day communications operations. This person will need to develop relationships with local and national media as well as assist in the development of the Sky’s brand voice. This candidate should also be passionate about women’s sports, championing equality, and elevating the Sky. This role will sit within the Integrated Marketing Department, and report directly to the Senior PR Manager and Chief Marketing Officer.
Responsibilities
- Oversee coordination and distribution of credentials for staff, media, officials and more
- Develop Chicago Sky’s media guide, day-to-day media notes and postgame notes
- Attend all Chicago Sky home games and select road games as contact point for media, must be available to travel and work nights and weekends
- Oversee the Chicago Sky’s writing program - familiarity with WordPress a bonus
- Serve as primary liaison for intern program
- Collect and distribute weekly team and league-wide media clips
- Develop and maintain relationships with media members and outlets
- Serve as a liaison for community events, member events, speaking events and more
- Assist Senior PR Manager in updating and maintaining Chicago Sky databases
- Assist in press release development
- Assist Senior PR Manager in all game day media operations (in-game statistical updates in person and via social channels, credentialing, set-up, and breakdown of press conferences, assisting with pre/post-game press conference and post-game notes)
- Assist visiting team PR representatives with their various game day needs
- Assist with media briefing documents
- Assist with various marketing projects
- Assist Senior PR Manager with coordination of media events and interviews
- Assist in execution of story pitching to local and national media along with proactive storytelling
Qualifications
- 2-4+ years of PR, communications, media relations, preferably in sports
- College degree in marketing, communications, journalism, and/or sports marketing
- Passionate about sports marketing, with an interest in women's sports and the WNBA
- Outstanding communication, influencing, and persuasion skills, both oral and written
- Exceptional leadership, collaboration, and teamwork skills, with an outstanding ability to manage complex relationships across many key stakeholders
- Energetic, self-starter who must be proactive, take the initiative, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, with and without direct supervision
- Experience successfully leading, managing, and motivating others
- Strong writing, editing, design, creative, and proofreading skills
- Hybrid role: 2 days/week expected in office, with attendance at practices and all home and some away games, including nights/weekends
Preferred
- Experience working in the WNBA, NBA, NCAA Division I or other professional basketball environments
- Experience working with WordPress or other similar systems
- Understanding of the Adobe suite and its products
- Proficient in Microsoft systems
- Familiarity with AP Style
