The Chicago Sky are seeking a licensed, experienced, and athlete-centered Massage Therapist Consultant to provide recovery and therapeutic support to WNBA players throughout the competitive season. This consultant will work as part of the integrated performance and medical team, offering soft-tissue services that promote recovery, reduce injury risk, and enhance overall athlete well-being. The ideal candidate thrives in high performance environments, understands the physical and mental demands of elite basketball, and is comfortable supporting players both at home and on the road.
Time Commitment & On-Site Expectations
• Mandatory attendance at all home games
• Present at home game days
• Present at all team practices
• Increased availability and on-site commitment during training camp
• Travel for all road trips or events, based on team needs and consultant availability
Key Duties & Responsibilities
• Provide individualized sports massage therapy, deep tissue work, and recovery treatments for athletes.
• Address soft tissue restrictions, muscle fatigue, soreness, and general recovery following practices, games, and travel.
• Collaborate closely with athletic training, strength & conditioning, and medical staff to align treatment with ongoing care plans.
• Support player needs across various environments including locker rooms, hotels, practice facilities, and treatment spaces.
• Assist with post-game recovery sessions and scheduled treatment blocks on road trips.
• Maintain cleanliness, safety, and professionalism of all treatment areas and equipment.
• Track treatment notes and communicate key information with the performance staff, respecting HIPAA and
player confidentiality standards.
Qualifications
• Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT) in good standing in the state of Illinois (or ability to obtain)
• Minimum 2–3 years of experience working with high-level or elite athletes
• Strong foundation in sports massage, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, and recovery-based modalities
• Ability to adapt treatment approaches to individual athlete needs and sport demands
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build trust with diverse athlete populations
• High level of professionalism, reliability, and discretion
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in professional, collegiate, or Olympic sport environments
• Prior work with women’s sports teams or basketball-specific demands
• Familiarity with integrated care teams and multi-disciplinary communication
