The Mascot Handler plays a critical role in supporting the team's mascot, Skye the Lioness, during games, appearances, community events, and promotional activations. This position ensures the mascot’s safety, performance quality, and positive fan experience while maintaining brand standards and professional conduct at all times. The ideal candidate is energetic, detail oriented, friendly, and thrives in fast paced, high visibility environments. 

We are looking for the Mascot Handler to create unforgettable fan experiences and be the protector, partner, and behind the scenes heartbeat of the mascot to help bring joy, energy, and connection to every appearance. 

Key Responsibilities:

Performance & Event Support 
  • Serve as the primary support person for the mascot during games, appearances, rehearsals, and events. 
  • Assist with crowd flow, fan interactions, and photo opportunities. 
  • Act as the mascot’s “voice,” facilitating communication between the mascot and staff, fans, and event partners. 
  • Help manage timing, transitions, and performance cues during appearances. 

Safety & Logistics
 
  • Always monitor mascot safety, including crowd control and physical spacing. 
  • Assist with mascot suit changes, hydration, cooling breaks, and visibility support. 
  • Transport mascot equipment and props as needed. 
  • Be aware of surroundings and intervene when interactions become unsafe or inappropriate. 

Brand & Professional Standards
 
  • Uphold the mascot’s character, personality, and brand voice in all interactions. 
  • Ensure mascot appearances align with team values and public image. 
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding internal operations and behind the scenes activity. 
  • Represent the organization professionally with fans, partners, and community members. 

Administrative & Prep Support
 
  • Assist with pre-event and post event setup and breakdown. 
  • Support inventory management of mascot gear, props, and supplies. 
  • Provide feedback after events regarding crowd engagement, logistics, or challenges. 

Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 21 years old 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Comfortable engaging with large crowds, children, and diverse audiences 
  • Ability to remain calm, alert, and professional in high energy environments 
  • Reliable transportation and punctuality 
  • Availability for nights, weekends, holidays, and game days 
  • Demonstrates high integrity, with an ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality

Preferred
 
  • Previous experience in sports, entertainment, events, or live performance 
  • Background in customer service, hospitality, or youth engagement 
  • Knowledge of professional sports or live event operations 
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods 

Physical & Environmental Requirements
 
  • Ability to walk, stand, and move continuously during events 
  • Ability to work outdoors and indoors in varying weather conditions 
  • Comfortable working in loud, crowded, and fast paced environments
