Job Title: Staff Accountant

Departmental Goals:
- To provide the Lakers organization with the necessary financial information to make informed decisions, while meeting all reporting requirements.
- To improve the quality and timeliness of existing reports issued to department.
- To work with each department on a department-by-department basis to determine and create new informational reports.
Position Summary: The Staff Accountant manages all accounting related to financial statements for South Bay Lakers, League reporting related to sponsor contracts, , calculation of sales commissions, and assists with completing audit field work.
Key metrics used to evaluate performance:
- Timeliness and accuracy of payroll, related audits, and League reporting
- Advance utilization of technology as it pertains to ‘Essential Functions’ section outlined below.
- Performing duties independently without heavy supervision while continuing to display initiative
- Use of analytical and critical thinking skills
- Ability to build cross-functional relationships and establish themselves as a positive team contributor.
Essential Functions (Duties & Responsibilities**):
- Prepare and upload journal entries for all South Bay Lakers cycles
- Reconcile South Bay Lakers and Lakers Gaming non-payroll bank accounts
- Handle accounting for Lakers South Bay Lakers, and affiliated entities sponsorship agreements
- Review sponsorship contract multiple element allocations
- Prepare requests for customer invoices for sponsor agreements and record payments
- Prepare monthly journal entry to book contract revenue
- Prepare quarterly Engage RM submission to the League
- Assign general ledger account codes to sponsor contract costs and tracks costs for League and for sales commission calculations
- Calculate Sponsorship department sales commissions on sponsor agreements.
- Manage accounting process for all Lakers broadcast agreements
- Calculate commission on broadcast agreements
- Review and prepare G/L coding for monthly corporate card statement reconciliations
- Work with Chief Accounting Officer to prepare schedules used in the calculation of the Lakers tax provision
- Assist with the preparation of audit schedules for GAAP, NBA Salary Cap, and NBA Revenue Sharing audits
- Ensures compliance with GAAP and internal policies and procedures.
- Assist with the preparation of schedules used in the preparation of the South Bay Lakers and Lakers tax return
- Assist with special projects and other tasks, as needed and assigned

Education/ Certifications: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or related field (required)
Previous experience:
- One to three (1-3) years of work experience in accounting or related position
- An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above
- Previous experience in sports and entertainment industry (preferred)
Technology Capabilities:
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office, principal focus on Excel
- Working knowledge and mastery of accounting systems
- Previous knowledge of Oracle Fusion Cloud software (preferred)

Location: El Segundo (offices M-F), and other occasional off-site events, as needed
Travel: Less than 5% of the time
Hours: Regular office hours (9am- 5:30pm M-F), plus overtime is mandatory; must be available to work evenings, weekends and holidays
The pay range for this role is $25.00 to $30.00 per hour. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience and certifications. In addition to those factors, we consider the relative pay of our current employees in similar positions when making a final offer.
