Job Title: Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach

Position Summary:
The Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach will work with the Head Strength & Conditioning Coach to ensure that each player has an individually designed strength and conditioning program to promote and support his performance and health maintenance. This role also works closely with the athletic training department to help implement, monitor, and adjust player workouts year-round as needed. This individual will assist in motivating players and holding them accountable for their work in the weight room.
In addition, the Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach will assist with collecting, inputting, and monitoring performance-related data from the weight room. This individual must have a strong understanding of the professional team environment and possess a solid quantitative and analytical skillset. Must be able to work well in a team, work irregular hours, and travel overnight for extensive periods of time.
Essential Functions (Duties & Responsibilities):
Strength & Conditioning
- Support the design, development, and delivery of individualized comprehensive periodized strength, speed, agility, and conditioning program; measure and monitor progress, and modify programs as needed
- Communicate and work in partnership within strength & conditioning department, on-court coaches, and other members of the Performance Staff to guide players through injury prevention, return to play programs, and other reconditioning and performance training
- Apply movement and performance-based assessments; execute body composition and anthropometric testing on players
- Explain, teach, and enforce proper execution, techniques and safety for all lifts and movement activities
- Maintain detailed records of programming, along with timely documentation of player status, progress, and performance as related to strength and conditioning
- Attend meetings with Performance Staff and other regular department meetings to discuss updates
- Assist in maintaining a clean and safe weight room
- Contribute to the evaluation and implementation of best-practice sports science principles
- Participate in the delivery of player activation and warm-up sessions during shoot around, practices and games
- Attend training camp, all practices, all home and away preseason, regular season and playoff games
- Assist with NBA pre-draft workouts and Summer League
- Collaborate with medical and training staff to conduct and evaluate NBA prospects
- Effectively motivate athletes to achieve maximum potential in all areas of performance
- Adhere to all team and League rules and reporting, including compliance with Anti-Drug Program and standards
- Ensure players are receiving necessary supplements as prescribed by the team’s sports dietitian
- Complete administrative and other duties as assigned
Sports Performance
- Spearhead the utilization and integration of sports performance technology and systems, such as the VALD platform, Kangatech and Kinexon, in collaboration with the medical, wellness, training, nutrition and analytics staff
- Help determine appropriate data points and collection protocols, working cross functionally to communicate the process and problem-solve questions/issues
- Support data collection process, including information such as baseline testing and measurements, rate of perceived exertion, load monitoring, key performance indicators, exercise and treatment logs, injuries, and specific return to play programs for players
- Assist in evaluation and implementation of sports science technology

Education:
- Bachelor’s degree required in Exercise Science, Sports Medicine, Sports Science, Kinesiology or other related field
- Master’s degree preferred
Credentials and Certification:
- Certifications related to the position are required: Current certification as Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS)
- Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach (RSCC) preferred
- Certified Performance & Sport Scientist (CPSS) recommended
- Certified Performance & Sport Scientist (CPSS) recommended
- Current certification in CPR/AED and First Aid required
Previous Experience:
- At least three (3) years of elite or pro level strength and conditioning experience required
- At least two (2) years of work experience (or multiple years of internship experience) with sports science or data analytics in a collegiate and/or professional setting required
- Previous experience working directly with basketball players required, collegiate or professional level preferred
- Prior use and application of sports performance technology and athlete monitoring tools required
Technology Capabilities:
- Proficient computer skills including use of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
- Experience with athlete management systems and technologies such as Smartabase, Kinexon, Vald systems, KangTech, Bridge, etc.

Physical Demands: Ability to lift 100 pounds or more; able to properly demonstrate and perform executed exercises
Location: El Segundo (offices M-F), downtown Los Angeles (Cyrpto.com Arena for Lakers home games), away games, practice, and other occasional off-site events
Travel: Travel with team to preseason, regular season, and post season away games, as well as California Classic and Vegas Summer League games; occasional other travel required
Hours: Ability to work flexible schedule; available to work evenings, weekends and holidays; overtime may be required
