JOB SUMMARY:

The Director of Production/ Lead Game Producer is the driving force behind Cavaliers broadcasts, serving as the primary Game Producer for every telecast and setting the energy and production standards for the entire network. Reporting to the VP of Production, this position acts as the creative and technical architect of each show, shaping the editorial voice from pre-game hype through the final buzzer. The Director leads a world-class production team, oversees high-pressure live broadcasts, and stewards key budgets and partnerships, all while crafting a cinematic, Cleveland-first viewing experience that feels dynamic, polished, and unmistakably ours.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Serve as the Lead Producer for all Cleveland Cavaliers home and away telecasts, with responsibility for the overall look, sound, and feel of each broadcast.
  • Lead the “front-bench” production team, including the Director, Associate Producers, and additional staff, to deliver high-energy, accurate, and engaging live sports television.
  • Develop and execute game-day storylines, ensuring on-air talent is prepared and features are integrated seamlessly into the flow of play.
  • Partner with the VP of Production to establish and maintain premium production standards, with an emphasis on technology, clean minimalist aesthetics, and sophisticated storytelling.
  • Oversee the technical requirements of the production unit, whether in a truck or control room, and coordinate with engineering to ensure peak performance.
  • Manage the production budget for Cavaliers-related programming.
  • Supervise and mentor the production crew, including camera operators, replay, and audio staff, to foster a cohesive, motivated, and high-performing team culture.
  • Work closely with on-air talent to refine delivery, strengthen chemistry, and improve preparation for each broadcast.
  • Act as the primary production liaison between the network and the Cleveland Cavaliers organization to ensure brand alignment and operational access.
  • Partner with Marketing and Promotions to ensure sponsored content and network teases are executed with precision and aligned with broadcast standards.
  • Drive the adoption of new broadcast technologies, including cameras, advanced telestration, and real-time data overlays, to keep coverage at the forefront of the industry.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 15+ years of live sports production experience, with a minimum of 8-10 years producing NBA games at the regional or national level.
  • Bachelor’s degree in broadcasting, media production, film/television production, communications, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Deep understanding of remote production workflows, including replay systems, graphics integration, and digital audio mixing.
  • Proven ability to lead a diverse team of 50+ freelancers and staff in a high-pressure live production environment.
  • Experience managing complex travel schedules and production budgets across a professional sports season.
  • Strong understanding of NBA strategy, nuances, and player history.
  • Ability to make split-second editorial decisions during a live broadcast while maintaining focus and composure.
  • Professional and collaborative demeanor that builds trust with staff, partners, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, holidays and other non-traditional hours based on event needs.
  • Travel required throughout the season, including accompanying the team to all away NBA games.
