Senior Director of Live Production
The Charlotte Hornets are seeking a technical and creative leader to oversee the execution and visual integrity of all in-arena video and digital display content at Spectrum Center. Reporting to the SVP, Fan Experience & Live Production, this role serves as the control room director for all Hornets home games and major events, ensuring seamless, broadcast-quality execution across all live productions.
This position is responsible for leading day-to-day production operations, managing game day technical crews, and overseeing all show preparation and execution. The Senior Director will collaborate closely with Game Presentation, Creative, Brand, Content, and Technical Operations teams to bring innovative concepts to life through dynamic video, motion graphics, and live storytelling. The ideal candidate combines elite-level live production expertise with strong creative instincts, operational leadership, and the ability to perform effectively in high-pressure live event environments., and the ability to perform effectively in high-pressure live event environments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Own the execution and visual integrity of all in-arena video board and digital display content, ensuring a consistent, broadcast-quality presentation across all assets and events.
- Serve as control room director for all Hornets home games and major live events, overseeing seamless real-time execution.
- Lead the hiring, training, scheduling, and performance management of game day production staff, including technical crew members, freelancers, and control room personnel.
- Conceptualize, script, oversee shoots, and edit video content that enhances the Hornets in-arena entertainment experience.
- Create and manage video production project lists, shot sheets, scripts, timelines, and editorial workflows.
- Oversee the Motion Design team, ensuring creative output aligns with organizational brand standards, storytelling objectives, and technical specifications.
- Manage end-to-end content ingestion workflows, including loading, testing, quality control, playback verification, and troubleshooting.
- Collaborate with Creative, Brand, Content, and Marketing teams to translate concepts into engaging in-arena video, graphics, and digital display elements.
- Work closely and collaboratively with the Director of Game Presentation & Entertainment to align game programming, scripting, and live execution.
- Partner with IT and Technical Operations teams to evaluate, implement, maintain, and optimize control room systems, playback servers, LED systems, and emerging production technologies.
- Oversee rehearsals and technical run-throughs, including lighting, audio, timing, queueing, and show coordination.
- Establish and enforce production standards, operational workflows, show documentation, and control room protocols.
- Develop and maintain detailed run-of-show documents, production rundowns, technical cue sheets, and operational procedures.
- Troubleshoot and resolve real-time technical and operational issues during live events while implementing contingency plans as needed.
- Mentor and develop production staff while fostering a collaborative, innovative, and solutions-oriented team environment.
- Support additional live production and organizational initiatives as assigned.
Required Skills, Experience and Abilities
To perform the job successfully, you will have or demonstrate the following skills and abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Production, Communications, Media Production, Film, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of live sports, broadcast, or large-scale event production experience, including significant control room directing experience.
- Deep understanding of live production systems including switchers, replay systems, graphics engines, LED control systems, playback servers, communications systems, and show control technologies.
- Proven leadership experience managing technical teams and executing productions in high-pressure live environments.
- Strong operational planning, organizational, and execution skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Experience managing production workflows, asset management systems, and end-to-end content delivery processes.
- Strong creative instincts and ability to collaborate effectively with creative, production, and business teams.
- Ability to maintain ownership and accountability for executional outcomes while working cross-functionally across departments.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Calm, decisive, and solutions-oriented decision-making under live-event pressure.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with industry-standard live production and editing software platforms preferred.
- Willingness to work extended hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, and all Hornets home games and events.
