PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Fellowship is a 12-month paid program for motivated and innovative recent college graduates. It is designed to build core skills, gain business insights, and get exposure to the many facets of Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment.
The External Affairs Fellow will provide support to three key functions: External Communications, Internal Communications and Community Relations. During their Fellowship Program, they will work on key priorities for the communications and community relations departments including media tracking, internal and external storytelling support, drafting materials, assisting in planning and executing community events and engaging in stakeholder management.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
External Communications -
- Support the Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment Communications team in executing corporate communications across the platform — including the Brooklyn Nets, New York Liberty, Barclays Center, and BSE’s expanding ventures in sports, entertainment, and hospitality.
- The role will also support storytelling around the Liberty’s 30th season and on- and off-court success, concerts and cultural moments at Barclays Center, and business milestones across the organization.
- Responsibilities may include:
- Monitoring and compiling daily media coverage across sports, entertainment, and business outlets
- Coordinating with promotors and onsite staffing for Barclays Center concerts
- Drafting press materials such as releases, media alerts, and executive bios
- Supporting game-day and event media operations
- Assisting with media recaps and communications reports
- Researching and developing unique story angles to elevate BSE, Nets and Liberty
- Supporting executive thought leadership efforts, including searching for opportunities to highlight BSE leadership
Internal Communications -
- Help maintain internal comms editorial calendar and develop content for weekly communications (newsletter, Slack posts, etc.) and communications campaigns.
- Draft content for Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment’s (BSE) LinkedIn pages and partner with page managers across the organization to coordinate and promote posts.
- Support ongoing updates on BSE’s external websites and intranet (Slack).
- Assist with BSE’s Employee Recognition Program by developing employee features/spotlights and supporting internal nomination processes.
- Maintain annual industry awards calendar and submission/event tracker.
- Support drafting awards submissions across BSE properties.
Community Relations -
- Community Event Support & Execution
- Assist in planning and executing programs and events. Responsibilities include coordinating logistics, managing event materials, and serving as an on-site liaison to ensure smooth operations and positive community engagement.
- Local Partner Engagement
- Build and maintain relationships with local nonprofits, schools, and community organizations. Help schedule meetings, prepare briefing materials, and support collaborative programming such as mentorship sessions or donation drives.
- Volunteer Coordination & Outreach
- Support internal volunteer initiatives by organizing staff participation in local service projects (e.g., food bank visits, park beautification efforts). Maintain volunteer rosters, track participation, and help recognize employee contributions.
- Community Communications & Impact Tracking
- Draft newsletters and recaps that highlight Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment’s community impact. Capture photos and quotes from events to help tell authentic stories about the organization’s work in Brooklyn. Help compile monthly reports that summarize outreach activities, attendance, and qualitative impact stories to share with internal stakeholders.
- Donation & Ticket Program Management
- Assist with the administration of community ticket programs, including tracking requests and coordinating distribution. Support in-kind donation efforts by preparing and managing inventory.

SALARY
$20.00 per hour
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position primarily works in an office environment; however, our program fellows may be expected to attend games and events in a paid capacity as requested. Games and events may take place on evenings, weekends and holidays.
