The Marketing department executes brand growth and revenue driving campaigns across the club’s business operations, including efforts involving ticket sales, community initiatives, social impact, brand awareness, and more.
The department is seeking a Director, Experiential Marketing that will support these campaigns with a specific emphasis on promotions, special events, grassroots, entertainment, and brand extensions by growing the cultural relevance and footprint of the Rays through lifestyle and artistic mediums such as art, food, music, fashion, etc. The ideal candidate will have a finger on the pulse of both local and national trends and a deep abiding love and knowledge of the sport of baseball with the intention of blurring the lines between the two. The role will also oversee the special events & promotions team.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Work cross departmentally with Procurement, Business Strategy & Analytics, and Ticketing departments on promotional strategy, schedule for gate giveaways, and ticket packages.
- Manage promotional budget and coordinate promotional item ordering for the organization.
- Strategize, develop and lead execution of brand extensions into cultural and lifestyle sectors (fashion, music, art, food) outside of the sport of baseball to expand the brand’s cultural relevance and presence throughout the market.
- Develop and manage influencer & celebrity relationships.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key local arts institutions, fan groups, clubs, etc.
- Assist with booking key game presentation experiences such as first pitches, national anthems, etc.
- Oversee the mascot, special events, and grassroots teams and support activations during Rays home games as well as throughout the Tampa Bay community.
- Identify ways to increase brand depth and breadth though special events, fan clubs, and other offerings.
- Manage copromotional initiatives with community partners (e.g. zoos, aquariums, museums).
- Identify marketing trends and new technologies that help reach the organization’s business objectives.
- Assist in the development, execution and evaluation of annual marketing plans and budgets.
- Along with larger marketing team, strategize, plan, and execute All-Star voting campaign activations and post-season activations.
- Hire, train, coach, and evaluate performance of direct reports and determine future personnel needs of the Experiential Marketing team.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Advertising, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in sports and entertainment industry in a role focused or roles dealing with experiential or lifestyle marketing.
- Experience managing a team.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills and experience analyzing and synthesizing large data sets.
- Must possess problem-solving capabilities to discover, address and resolve issues.
- Experience managing external vendors.
- Independent worker with close attention to detail.
- Must thrive in a highly collaborative and fast paced work environment.
