The Director, Data Systems & Strategy will report to the Vice President, Business Strategy & Analytics, and will serve the owner and orchestrator of the Tampa Bay Rays business data warehouse.  This role requires a strong technical background in data architecture and data engineering, and will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining new and existing data pipelines. The ideal candidate will be able to proactively collaborate with data stakeholders and build data solutions to support statistical modeling, data visualization, and data analysis. These data pipelines will span several departments including ticketing, marketing, sponsorship, finance, broadcasting, and more.

 Duties & Responsibilities
  • Design and orchestrate efficient ETL pipelines and data validation processes to ensure data cleanliness and serve as organizational single source of truth
  • Develop internal consumer data platform to aggregate fan data across multiple sources and serve as our golden record system
  • Structure data tables and views as necessary for data visualizations and modeling
  • Work collaboratively with Ticket Operations department to develop practices and procedures that are conducive to data analytics and reporting
  • Support automated data processes that pass information between our data warehouse and front-end systems such as CRM 
  • Maintain meticulous documentation of data processes and pipelines 
  • Proactively identify additional data sources that can be ingested into our warehouse to be subsequently used to create data-driven solutions
  • Write and manage complex SQL scripts, stored procedures, and views
  • Support corporate partnership activations involving data processes such as data clean rooms
  • Develop reference tables across data sources to standardize reporting and analytics
  • Manage data warehouse budget and perform cost-benefit analysis of data processes
  • Support cross-departmental ad-hoc requests for data analysis 
  • Oversee, develop, and mentor analysts to build a culture of innovation and improvement
  • Maintain key relationships with vendors, MLB, and other industry peers to ensure best practices
  • Work closely with key stakeholders across departments to proactively identify opportunities for strategic, data-driven solutions
 
Minimum Qualifications for the Position:
  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science, data analytics, or a related technical field
  • Demonstrated success in building and maintaining a complex data environment 
  • Deep understanding of dimensional data modeling concepts and practical experience building star schemas, including the definition of facts, dimensions, and slowly changing dimensions
  • Expert level understanding of SQL (Snowflake preferred)
  • Proficiency in data extraction tools/processes (Fivetran preferred)
  • Proficiency in data transformation tools/processes (Coalesce preferred)
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as R or Python
  • Experience with data visualization tools (Tableau preferred)
  • Experience with CRM systems (Salesforce preferred)
  • Experience with Tickets.com/ProVenue is a plus
  • Experience in the Sports & Entertainment industry is a plus
  • Must be able to identify problems, their sources, and their potential solutions while continuing to successfully conduct day-to-day operations without interruption
  • Advanced proficiency in written and visual communication, with the ability to clearly communicate complex ideas and information to diverse audiences across the organization
