Description:
We're seeking to expand our Baseball Performance Science team! The Academy Biomechanist will serve a key role to enhance the integration of biomechanics lab technology to improve athlete performance, readiness, and resiliency in the Player Development Academy in the Dominican Republic. This role will assist Baseball Performance Science, Player Development, Medical, and Baseball Operations staff in the coordination of biomechanics technology, administering testing sessions, collecting, maintaining, and reporting data, and ensuring timely and accurate flow of information in and out of the department. Communication and education applying biomechanics and performance science concepts to players and coaches is a critical component of this position. 

Duties & Responsibilities: 
  • Coordinate daily use of biomechanics and performance science resources, including motion capture systems and force plates, to support player development, medical, and strength and conditioning staff 
  • Manage operation and development of existing and new technology in the player development lab to support timely and impactful delivery of information to players and staff 
  • Assist performance science staff in conducting assessments and regular readiness screenings with athletes, and in providing feedback obtained from technological resources. 
  • Provide education to players and staff, in both group and individual settings, on the integration of biomechanics, performance science, and baseball data to impact athlete performance, readiness, and resiliency.  
  • Support ongoing research across departments towards integrating biomechanics and performance science data to improve evaluation and monitoring processes. 
  • Contribute to various broader performance science initiatives across the organization, as necessary. 
 
Skills & Education: 
  • A strong foundation in a sports science related field, including an aptitude to learn biomechanics, exercise physiology, and/or neuromuscular control. 
  • Minimum Master’s degree in biomechanics, kinesiology, engineering, or related field preferred (significant experience will also be considered). 
  • Demonstrated experience with biomechanics research and data collection processes. Examples include, but are not limited to: markered and/or markerless motion capture, IMU’s, force plates, computer vision, and/or camera AI technology. 
  • Experience and aptitude to learn with coding languages, including but not limited to SQL, R, Python, and/or Matlab. 
  • Ability to effectively interact and communicate with a diverse team of individuals across the organization including performance scientists, sports medicine, coaching staff, analytics staff, front office personnel, and scouting staff is critical. 
  • Spanish proficiency is required.
