The Charleston RiverDogs, of Minor League Baseball affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, are looking to find a qualified Broadcasting and Media Relations Intern for the 2022 season.

The Organization
The RiverDogs are nationally recognized as one of the top organizations in professional sports, gaining notoriety for unique promotions, outrageous food and beverage items, and excellent customer service. The RiverDogs strive to provide a diverse fanbase with a memorable and highly entertaining experience at each of its 66 home games and many other events at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park in downtown Charleston.

The RiverDogs offer several full-time internships, which start in mid-March and go through early September. These are unpaid positions, which can be completed for college credit. These internships are designed to provide interns with insight into the entire scope of a minor league baseball operation.

Departmental Internships - Broadcasting and Media Relations
The RiverDogs hire a number of interns into hands-on positions throughout the operation that pair interns with full-time staff members. This Broadcasting and Media Relations Internship focuses on work in our Broadcasting and Media Relations Department, and also includes an introduction into all aspects of the business. A great candidate will have excellent writing skills, some experience in managing a web site CMS, social media prowess, and some level of experience in live sports broadcasting.

Primary Duties:
  • Provide color commentary, with the potential to broadcast three innings, for 66 RiverDogs home games (play-by-play innings are earned based on job performance)
  • Conduct interviews with players and coaches
  • Write press releases and game recaps, prepare game notes, and write articles for website & game program  
  • Assist RiverDogs staff, press box staff and local media as needed
  • Produce/design of the RiverDogs digital program. This includes writing articles, gathering ads and updating rosters
  •  Game day ballpark set-up 
  • Brainstorm new ideas for theme nights, promotions, in-game between inning promo’s, etc.
  • Assist in updating social media platforms during games
  • Assist RiverDogs staff members with daily operations
  • Assist full-time staff and interns with game day duties, prior to and following games
  • Pull tarp
  • Help sell and book ticket orders
  • Other duties as assigned 
  • Previous writing experience is a must
