Position Overview
The Asheville Tourists (High-A Affiliate of the Houston Astros) is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Special Events Intern to assist our Tourists Signature Events department for the 2026 Fall semester. This internship offers the opportunity for hands-on learning in event planning and execution, sales, marketing, and cross departmental communication and collaboration.
This internship will be on-site during the Tourists baseball off-season, and will be expected to work nights and weekends as needed.
Key Responsibilities
The Asheville Tourists (High-A Affiliate of the Houston Astros) is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Special Events Intern to assist our Tourists Signature Events department for the 2026 Fall semester. This internship offers the opportunity for hands-on learning in event planning and execution, sales, marketing, and cross departmental communication and collaboration.
This internship will be on-site during the Tourists baseball off-season, and will be expected to work nights and weekends as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with special event setup and strike.
- Act as an usher, ticket taker, bag checker/mag operator, ticket seller, or parking attendant for Special Events.
- Conduct market research and prospecting.
- Collect vendor quotes and coordinate deliveries.
- Create and fill staffing matrixes.
- Coordinate marketing schedules and create brand collateral.
- Attend and participate in sports turf, catering, operations, and production meetings.
- Take ownership of ballpark tours, including curriculum research and creation, marketing, and execution.
Learning Outcomes
- Become trained in ticket and guest service operations for Special Events.
- Exposure to TripleSeat, Constant Contact, Wix, and Canva.
- Learn about interdepartmental workings of ballpark Special Events.
- Create, market, and book ballpark tour product.
Qualifications
- Current student studying hospitality, business, marketing, or sports management, receiving college course credit for this internship.
- Basic knowledge in Canva and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Basic knowledge in TripleSeat, Wix, and Constant Contact preferred but not required.
- Ability to lift 50lbs overhead.
- Willingness to learn and take initiative.
