Position Overview
The Asheville Tourists (High-A Affiliate of the Houston Astros) is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Special Events Intern to assist our Tourists Signature Events department for the 2026 Fall semester. This internship offers the opportunity for hands-on learning in event planning and execution, sales, marketing, and cross departmental communication and collaboration.
This internship will be on-site during the Tourists baseball off-season, and will be expected to work nights and weekends as needed.
Key Responsibilities 
  • Assist with special event setup and strike. 
  • Act as an usher, ticket taker, bag checker/mag operator, ticket seller, or parking attendant for Special Events.
  • Conduct market research and prospecting. 
  • Collect vendor quotes and coordinate deliveries. 
  • Create and fill staffing matrixes.
  • Coordinate marketing schedules and create brand collateral. 
  • Attend and participate in sports turf, catering, operations, and production meetings. 
  • Take ownership of ballpark tours, including curriculum research and creation, marketing, and execution. 
Learning Outcomes
  • Become trained in ticket and guest service operations for Special Events.
  • Exposure to TripleSeat, Constant Contact, Wix, and Canva.
  • Learn about interdepartmental workings of ballpark Special Events. 
  • Create, market, and book ballpark tour product.
Qualifications 
  • Current student studying hospitality, business, marketing, or sports management, receiving college course credit for this internship.
  • Basic knowledge in Canva and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Basic knowledge in TripleSeat, Wix, and Constant Contact preferred but not required. 
  • Ability to lift 50lbs overhead. 
  • Willingness to learn and take initiative.
