The Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp are seeking a dedicated broadcast intern to join our award-winning broadcast team for the 2026 season!
Responsibilities Include:
- Provide color commentary for every Pistol Shrimp Broadcast
- All 56 regular-season games are broadcast on 103.9 WLPO, the flagship radio station of the Pistol Shrimp
- All 27 home games are also simulcast on the Prospect League Streaming Network with high-level remote video production
- Interview players, coaches, fans, etc., for the radio and video broadcast before, during, and after games
- Get a head start on your reel by managing all team highlights, including posting game highlights on social media and YouTube.
- Assist when needed with stories for the website, writing media packets, and written broadcast materials
- Assist with the setup and teardown of all daily broadcast equipment
Desired Qualifications
- Previous broadcast experience at the professional, college, or high school level
- Great knowledge of the game of baseball and previous experience broadcasting baseball
- General knowledge of the workings of a radio station and sports broadcasts
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to take direction and adjust quickly in fast-paced situations
- Detail-oriented, strong problem-solving, and strong decision-making abilities
- Proficiency in working with a team
- Ability to work independently
- Available for all Pistol Shrimp games, including potential postseason games
- Ability to take and achieve all directions from all Pistol Shrimp supervisors and directors, and work well with others
- Ability to display a positive attitude and professional demeanor while representing Pistol Shrimp Baseball
- Flexible, and willing to work long hours, including nights & weekends
- Confident, self-motivated, and able to demonstrate passionate commitment
Dates & Schedule:
- Expected Availability: May 18, 2026 - August 14, 2026
- Orientation, Training, & Field Setup: May 18 - May 24
- Regular Season: May 25 - August 1
- Postseason: August 2 - August 7
- Packing & Cleaning: August 2 - August 7 or August 8 - August 14
Compensation & More Information:
- Compensation: $500 stipend for the summer. Class credit, if applicable.
- We encourage applicants to consult with their academic advisors to make sure their work experience is suitable for fulfilling degree requirements. This internship provides approximately 300+ hours of experience during the summer.
- Please note: A host family may be provided, but applicants who do not reside locally could be expected to secure their own housing if selected.
- Location preference may be given to candidates located in or with confirmed housing within the Illinois Valley footprint or driving distance.
- Road game travel is on the team’s coach bus, and road hotels are provided by the team to replicate the minor league experience.
