Position Overview:
The Philadelphia Phillies MiLB Associate Performance Dietitian is a seasonal, temporary role that supports the Philadelphia Phillies Nutrition Department by providing applied performance nutrition services to minor league athletes at the Low-A level. This position works closely with a multidisciplinary performance team to implement the Phillies nutrition philosophy and deliver practical, high-quality nutrition support in a professional baseball environment.
This role is expected to work all home series in person and perform limited remote work during road series. While the schedule is subject to fluctuation based on the team calendar, the successful candidate can expect to work approximately 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM for periods of six consecutive days (50–60 hours per week) while the team is at home. When working onsite during home series, three meals per day will be provided.
When the team is on the road, required daily remote check-ins will total approximately 10–15 hours per week. This position is paid hourly and is eligible for overtime in accordance with applicable labor laws.
Primary responsibilities include working as part of a multidisciplinary team to implement the Phillies nutrition philosophy, supporting the development and streamlining of nutrition education throughout the organization, facilitating the delivery of high-quality food, beverages, and supplements to support performance, and providing small group and 1:1 nutrition education to players and staff using practical, applied strategies.
Responsibilities:
- Implement Phillies nutrition philosophies and standards at the assigned affiliate.
- Coordinate meals with clubhouse managers and caterers both at home and road locations.
- Help manage fueling stations; including stocking/organizing, ordering products and assisting athletes with smoothies or other fueling needs.
- Manage given affiliate budget.
- Assess and analyze dietary habits, body composition, hydration practices and energy balance of players as it relates to their athletic performance.
- Conduct nutrition consultations to provide individualized nutrition strategies for players based on needs and/or goals.
- Integrate with baseball staff and support staff to ensure a comprehensive approach to training, nutrition and recovery, as well as aiding in the treatment of nutritional-related medical issues.
- Collaborate with athletic training, rehab, and strength and conditioning staff to ensure a comprehensive approach for players rehabbing from an injury.
- Oversee, and conduct when there, body composition assessments for assigned minor league affiliates.
- Stay up to date on scientific research and trends in performance nutrition, as well as participate in continuing education the Nutrition Coordinator may provide or require.
- Assist with NSF Certified for Sports supplement ordering and inventory management.
- Monitor and track the use of supplements by each player, promoting the NSF Certified for Sport program with extra guidance provided regarding functional foods.
- Integrate nutrition protocols and education with injured players.
- Provide performance nutrition education through created documents, presentations, digital communication and other various teaching methods.
- Work with the Nutrition Coordinator in the development of education and growth for the Philadelphia Phillies Nutrition program.
- Help to create a curriculum of culinary performance methods and techniques (i.e. cooking classes/demos).
- Assist with other duties as assigned by the Nutrition Coordinator.
- Maintain effective communication regarding athlete nutrition with the Nutrition Coordinator and relevant staff.
- Hours include nights, weekends, and some holidays.
- Days may include long standing durations and lifting heavy objects.
Required Qualifications:
A Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) who:
- Minimum of 1-year of experience working with collegiate or professional athletes in an internship or a full-time job
- Foodservice/catering experience
- Experienced with Microsoft Office, Google Drive, OneDrive and other forms of document creating and sharing
- Excellent time management, organizational, and record keeping skills
- Flexible schedule with willingness to work any time of the week
- Hard-working, enthusiastic, and professional
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional proficiency in Spanish
