Job Summary
The Seasonal Grounds Crew Member is responsible for assisting with the preparation, maintenance, and repair of the playing field and surrounding grounds to ensure a safe, professional, and visually high-quality playing surface for games, practices, and special events. This role requires physical labor, attention to detail, and the ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Field Preparation & Maintenance
- Assist with daily field setup and breakdown for games and events
- Drag, chalk, line, and manicure the infield and base paths
- Repair pitcher’s mound, batter’s boxes, bullpens, and home plate areas
- Maintain turf quality through mowing, edging, aerating, watering, and fertilization
- Assist with tarp deployment and removal during inclement weather
Equipment & Facility Support
- Operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment (e.g., mowers, rakes, hand tools, chalk liners)
- Safely store and clean tools and equipment after use
- Report equipment malfunctions or safety issues promptly
Game Day & Event Support
- Support pre-game, in-game, and post-game field needs
- Respond quickly to weather-related or game-related field issues
- Assist with non-baseball events held on the field or surrounding grounds as needed
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all safety procedures, training, and PPE requirements
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment
- Comply with team policies, MLB/MiLB standards, and local safety regulations
- Candidates must be 16 year's old for safety and compliance reasons
Qualifications & Skills
- Ability to perform physical labor for extended periods
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions (heat, rain, humidity)
- Willingness to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team
- Basic knowledge of baseball field maintenance preferred but not required
- Prior groundskeeping, landscaping, or field maintenance experience a plus
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and reach for extended periods
- Ability to operate manual and motorized equipment safely
Visual acuity sufficient to inspect field conditions and equipment
Work Environment
- Outdoor stadium environment
- Exposure to weather conditions, dirt, grass, and equipment noise
- Fast-paced environment during games and events
