Position Overview
The Oklahoma City Comets are seeking a detail-oriented, highly organized, self-driven Community Relations Assistant to guide the organization’s community relations efforts. The Community Relations Assistant will focus on building and maintaining strong, positive relationships between the Comets and the local community as well as assist with introducing bat and ball sports to area youth. The Community Relations Assistant will plan and execute outreach events such as youth clinics and school visits, manage donation and charitable requests, assist with coordination of the OKC Comets Rookie League and manage key local and national stakeholder relationships. This position will be paid hourly and hours may fluctuate based on event frequency, but will regularly be in the 30-40 hours per week range.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Managing events, including planning, executing and evaluating outreach efforts. Duties will include identifying and securing event venues, managing timelines, coordinating and communicating with volunteers, participants and other stakeholders, purchasing equipment, managing registration sign-ups and fulfilling Major League Baseball and Minor League Baseball requirements.
• Executing MLB-driven and MiLB-driven community programs including PLAY BALL Weekend, UMPS CARE, Joe Torre Safe at Home, Lou Gehrig Day, Nike RBI Programs, Pitch, Hit and Run, etc.
• Coordinating school visits and youth clinics with area school districts throughout the academic year.
• Managing relationships and coordinating with local and national stakeholders, including Oklahoma City Public Schools, Police Athletic League, USA Softball, Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation as well as with contacts at Major League Baseball and Minor League Baseball.
• Managing and tracking donation requests, charitable efforts and fundraisers, including auctions, scholarship programs, raffles, mascot visits and donations.
• Coordinating with the Comets marketing team to promote events, increase registrations and highlight community efforts on social media.
• Gathering photos, videos and feedback throughout events.
• Monitoring, evaluating and reporting on the impact of community relations programs using data, feedback and cost analysis to inform future planning and drive improvement of community efforts.
• Position to be paid hourly. Hours may fluctuate based on event frequency, but will regularly be in the 30-40 hours per week range.

Minimum Qualifications
• Previous experience in community relations, nonprofit programming, youth sports or event coordination.
• Committed to making a positive impact in the community, working with area youth and promoting the Comets brand.
• Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to multitask, adapt and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Detail-oriented, positive attitude and strong work ethic.
• Ability to work independently while also collaborating with multiple stakeholders at once.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and event registration management software (LeagueApps).
• Excellent communication skills.
• Able to lift up to 40 pounds and support event setup/breakdown.
• Reliable transportation and ability travel across central Oklahoma.
• Comfortable working outdoors in varied weather.
• Ability to work both on and off site in varied environments, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
• Ability to maintain confidential information.
