Chief of Staff to the President of Business Operations

Location: Baltimore, MD
Type: Full-time, Exempt
Compensation: $165K–215K base + 15% performance bonus

The Opportunity
This is a rare opportunity to join the Baltimore Orioles at a transformational moment in the franchise's history. As Chief of Staff, you'll serve as the strategic partner to the President of Business Operations, translating vision into execution, ensuring the right decisions get made at the right time, and building the systems that enable this organization to compete at a championship level.

You'll have direct access to senior leadership and ownership, serving as both strategic architect and operational integrator. This isn't an administrative role—it's about being the connective tissue between bold ideas and meaningful outcomes.

We welcome candidates from diverse professional backgrounds. Whether you've built your career in sports or in consulting, finance, law, corporate strategy, private equity, banking, technology, government, or other high-performance environments, we're looking for exceptional strategic operators who excel at rolling up their sleeves and making complex organizations work better.

What You'll Do
Strategic Partnership:
  • Act as a trusted proxy for the President in cross-functional meetings, representing her perspective, unblocking decisions, and ensuring alignment across the organization
  • Prepare decision-ready materials for ownership, executive sessions, community sessions and employee town halls, synthesizing complex information into clear options, trade-offs, recommendations, and narratives
  • Ensure all materials and recommendations are prepared with complete integrity and accountability, building trust with leadership, ownership, and stakeholders
  • Own special projects end-to-end: from initial scoping through execution and analysis, driving initiatives that create meaningful impact for fans, the community, and the business
Organizational Systems & Intelligence:
  • Design and manage the leadership operating rhythm: structure executive meetings, offsites, and decision forums that keep the organization focused on what matters most
  • Build early warning systems that surface emerging risks and opportunities before they require urgent action, giving leadership time to respond thoughtfully rather than reactively
  • Create visibility into strategic initiatives through regular reporting that tracks progress, identifies risks, and flags where decisions are needed
Cross-Functional Leadership:
  • Build trust across all levels of the organization. You must be equally effective and comfortable partnering with C-suite executives as you are supporting frontline staff during high-pressure moments
  • Partner with department heads to improve how teams work together, reducing friction and increasing execution speed
  • Champion a team-first culture that balances creative problem-solving with disciplined accountability, where individual contributions strengthen collective success

Who You Are
Experience & Credentials:
  • 7–10 years in management consulting, sports business, investment banking, private equity, corporate strategy, law, government, or similar high-performance environments
  • Strong academic credentials (advanced degree preferred but not required if offset by exceptional professional achievement)
  • Proven ability to influence senior executives and drive outcomes in complex organizations

How You Work
  • Strategic yet practical: You can zoom out to see the big picture and zoom in to ensure details are right. You synthesize complex information into frameworks that enable better decisions
  • Calm under pressure: You maintain executive presence in high-stakes situations and handle sensitive information with discretion and sound judgment
  • Systems thinker: You design processes that scale and prevent recurring problems rather than just solving issues as they arise
  • Low ego, high impact: You build trust quickly across diverse groups. You're as comfortable architecting strategy as you are rolling up your sleeves for hands-on execution
  • Relentless in pursuit of excellence: You maintain high standards and continuously push for better outcomes while staying grounded in what's right for the organization long-term
  • Bias toward action: You drive outcomes even in ambiguous situations, balancing thoughtful analysis with the need to move forward

What Sets You Apart
  • Experience helping organizations navigate significant change such as restructurings, strategic pivots, or periods of growth
  • Ability to quickly get up to speed on diverse topics and connect dots across different parts of the business
  • Genuine curiosity about how technology and emerging tools can improve operations. You think boldly, take smart risks, and approach challenges with creativity rather than defaulting to conventional solutions
  • Deep commitment to serving the community and creating experiences that inspire pride and joy for fans and the city of Baltimore

What to Expect
  • Work Environment: Year-round in-office presence. This role requires adaptability to the pace and intensity of a professional sports organization
  • Your Network: You'll work directly with the President and interface regularly with C-suite leaders, ownership, baseball operations, and key community stakeholders
  • Your Impact: You'll influence decisions across the organization through insight, coordination, and trust, building systems and establishing standards that will shape how this franchise operates for years to come

Why Now
This role offers unprecedented access to franchise leadership during a period of organizational evolution, with exposure to complex challenges across sports business, real estate, media, community impact, and organizational design. It's designed as a career accelerator with strong potential for growth into general management or strategy leadership based on performance and organizational needs.

You'll develop working relationships with ownership, executives, and community leaders while helping build something that matters, not just to the organization, but to Baltimore and the fans who make this franchise special.
