Madison Mallards Baseball and Night Mares Softball are seeking Human Resources/Accounting Interns for the 2025 Summer season. Candidates in this internship will gain valuable experience supporting two summer collegiate sports teams.
Responsibilities Include:
Support the HR Coordinator and Accounting Manager with staffing and payroll tasks.
Assist with recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding seasonal part-time employees.
Use WhenIWork scheduling software to assist department managers with staff schedule management.
Monitor part-time staff attendance on game days, alerting department managers to attendance issues and
participate in navigating solutions.
Review & correct hourly clock punches, following up with employees or FT staff as needed to get approvals.
Coordinate the bi-weekly distribution of paychecks to part-time staff. Provide information on & process
requests for direct deposit to improve this process.
Accounting Responsibilities include:
Provide game day Point-of-Sale system support to Food & Beverage, Merchandising, and Kid Zone
departments.
Use Square software and Excel to provide game day revenue reporting and to analyze financial performance
of business operations.
Manage Point-of-sale system hardware including pre-season setup, game-day support and routine upkeep.
Use Quickbooks Online to write and post routine journal entries.
Use Bill, a web-based accounts payable service to code invoices for payment.
Assist with review of company credit card activity and expense coding.
Assist with routine bank deposits.
Provide ad-hoc financial analysis and recommendations, as requested by team management.
Desired Skills:
Excellent communication skills.
Must be well organized and detail oriented.
Base-level knowledge in Microsoft Excel and an aptitude to learn.
Ability to problem solve on the fly.
Ability to work independently and take initiative.
Requirements:
All interns are expected to work the majority of home games. Candidates in this internship position will
rotate game day responsibilities as assigned by management.
All Interns will be required to participate in weekly sports management workshops.
At least 1 year of college-level coursework in an Human Resources, Accounting, Finance, or other business
management related field.
About the Madison Mallards & Madison Night Mares:
The Mallards are one of the largest and most successful summer collegiate baseball teams in the nation attracting more than 200,000 fans each summer. The Night Mares debuted in 2024 as an inaugural Northwoods League Softball team. In just one year, they became the highest attended summer collegiate softball team and look to continue to grow in year two. The Mallards & Night Mares annually hire more than 20 intern positions for the season, who may also have the opportunity to gain experience at other Madison based teams & events throughout the summer. Many of our full-time staff completed an internship or seasonal position with us prior to their full-time employment. Former interns have gone on to work for the Carolina Panthers, Milwaukee Brewers, Arizona Diamondbacks, Green Bay Packers, and various minor league and summer collegiate league teams across the nation.
It is recommended, but not required, for our internships to go towards college credits. All Interns will be required to participate in weekly sports management workshops and external community baseball clinics.
