Job Description:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to lead and develop the Madison Night Mares Women’s Summer Collegiate Softball team as the Assistant Pitching Coach. The ideal candidate will be responsible for assisting in the strategic direction, discipline, and mentorship of our student-athletes while fostering a culture of excellence and building a strong relationship with the Madison community. The season will consist of about 42 total games that will span from the middle of June through August.

About the Madison Night Mares:
The Night Mares are the largest and most successful summer collegiate softball teams in the nation attracting more than 21,000 fans in its inaugural season (2024), and looking to grow that number heading into next summer. The Night Mares main focus is player development, as well as fan entertainment, and the head coach would expect to embody that culture.

During the Night Mares inaugural season, the Night Mares led the Northwoods league in Batting Average (.330), Hits (397), Doubles (80), Stolen Bases (108), Fielding Percentage (.956), and Strikeouts (216). In its second season, the Night Mares won their first ever Northwoods League Softball championship posting a league best 37-7 record, leading the NWL in nearly every statistical category.

Responsibilities:
    • Understand compliance restrictions of the student-athletes and all player's respective universities to ensure guidelines and regulations are followed.
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive coaching program to enhance the skills and performance of student-athletes.
    • Design and execute effective practice sessions, drills, and game strategies to maximize the pitcher's performance and success.
    • Foster a positive and inclusive team culture that promotes sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal development.
    • Conduct film study and analysis to evaluate team and individual performance, and provide constructive feedback to players.
    • Serve as a mentor and role model for student-athletes, guiding them to promote personal growth and success.
    • Cultivate positive relationships with the community to support the program's development and success.
    • Represent the team and the institution professionally at all times, both on and off the field.
    • Coordinate with Night Mares Softball staff on bus schedules and game day itineraries.
    • Keep the clubhouse clean and organized throughout the season.
    • Foster a positive and inclusive team culture that prioritizes sportsmanship, integrity, and respect.
    • Understand the host family program that most girls will be a part of- support the rules of each family that hosts a player and encourage the players to have a positive relationship with their family and be respectful.
    • Develop a plan for non-game days focused on team building and community engagement.
    • Other responsibilities/duties assigned
Qualifications:
  • Proven coaching experience at the collegiate or professional level, with a strong track record of developing student-athletes.
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit and retain talented student-athletes.
  • Outstanding player network and a desire to attract the best players possible to Madison.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to effectively motivate and inspire athletes.
  • Strong knowledge of the sport, including current trends, strategies, and training techniques.
  • Commitment to upholding the highest ethical standards and promoting a culture of integrity and sportsmanship.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with department staff and other stakeholders to support the overall success of student-athletes.
