Job Summary
The Buffet Attendant is responsible for the professional setup, maintenance, and breakdown of all food and beverage buffet stations in designated premium areas (e.g., club lounges, party decks). This role focuses on ensuring a clean, well-stocked, and visually appealing presentation of all buffet items, monitoring food quality and temperature, and providing courteous, high-level hospitality to guests as they navigate the buffet line.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Buffet Setup & Maintenance: Prepare and set up the buffet line, including placement of food trays, chafing dishes, serving utensils, plates, and napkins according to established standards.
- Food Monitoring & Quality: Continuously monitor the buffet line, checking food temperatures, replenishing items promptly, and ensuring food presentation is maintained throughout the event. Communicate with kitchen staff regarding low stock and preparation needs.
- Guest Assistance: Greet guests warmly and courteously. Assist guests with questions about food items, ingredients, and any special requests.
- Cleanliness & Sanitation: Maintain a clean and sanitary serving area, quickly addressing spills and ensuring the area around the buffet remains neat.
- Beverage Service: Monitor and replenish non-alcoholic beverage stations (e.g., water, soda, coffee). If applicable, monitor any self-serve beer/wine stations for compliance.
- Area Breakdown: Efficiently break down the buffet area at the conclusion of the service period, properly storing unused items and ensuring all equipment is clean and returned to the appropriate storage area.
- Compliance: Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and sanitation regulations, including proper food handling and storage.
- Communication: Maintain clear and professional communication with kitchen, bar, and management staff to ensure seamless service.
- Availability: Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the event schedule.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Must be at least 14 years of age.
- Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills with a focus on hospitality.
- Ability to work quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Possession of a valid local food handler's permit or willingness to obtain one upon hiring.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 6-8 hours) on hard surfaces.
- Ability to perform frequent, repeated, and sustained lifting, carrying, and pushing of items.
- Ability to frequently lift and move supplies and equipment up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds (with assistance if necessary).
- Ability to work safely and effectively in a fast-paced environment, often involving high temperatures and noise.
