The Battle Creek Battle Jacks are offering an opportunity for current college students to gain real-world live sports broadcast experience as a Camera Operator for the 2026 season. This internship is designed for students interested in sports broadcasting and live game production who want hands-on responsibility operating cameras during a collegiate summer baseball season. Camera Operator interns play a critical role in delivering a professional live stream experience for fans watching Battle Jacks games.
About the Battle Creek Battle Jacks
The Battle Creek Battle Jacks are a proud member of the Northwoods League, the premier collegiate summer baseball league in North America. Based in Battle Creek, Michigan, the Battle Jacks operate like a professional minor league organization while maintaining a culture centered on teamwork, accountability, and community connection.
The Northwoods League features elite college players from across North America and operates at a professional level using wooden bats, minor league-spec baseballs, overnight travel, and nightly games in front of thousands of fans.
Internship Dates
Start Date: On or around mid-May 2026
End Date: On or around mid-August 2026
Academic Qualifications
Applicants should be pursuing a degree in Broadcasting, Journalism, Media Production, Communications, Sport Management, or a related field. Other majors will be considered based on experience.
Position Responsibilities
Game Day Broadcast Responsibilities
- Serve as a camera operator for all Battle Jacks home games
- Operate assigned broadcast cameras during live game production
- Follow direction from the Broadcast Director during live streams
- Capture game action, crowd shots, sponsor elements, and in-game promotions
- Maintain awareness of inning transitions, pitching changes, and game flow
- Assist with setup and breakdown of broadcast equipment before and after games
- Ensure proper care and storage of all production equipment
Production Support
- Assist with camera positioning and basic technical setup
- Support troubleshooting efforts during live production if needed
- Work collaboratively with fellow camera operators, director, and broadcast staff
General Internship Responsibilities
- Availability for all Battle Jacks home games, including nights and weekends
- Expected to arrive prior to first pitch for equipment setup and production preparation
- Assist with limited ballpark setup or teardown duties as assigned
- Maintain professionalism and represent the Battle Jacks brand in a positive manner
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the General Manager or Broadcast Supervisor
Desired Skills & Qualifications
- Previous experience operating cameras for live events preferred but not required
- Understanding of live sports production environment preferred
- Ability to follow direction clearly in a fast-paced setting
- Strong attention to detail and awareness of live game situations
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift and carry 30–50 lbs
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn
Compensation
This internship is structured as an educational and professional development experience. There is no hourly wage associated with the position. The organization will provide a monthly stipend of up to $600 (based on skills and experience) to help offset living expenses such as food, gas, and housing.
Housing
Housing is not provided. Interns are responsible for arranging their own summer accommodations in and around Battle Creek, Kalamazoo, and greater Calhoun County.
College Credit
College credit toward a major, minor, or general elective may be available, subject to the requirements of the intern’s academic institution.
Portfolio Requirement
Applicants are encouraged to submit links to relevant work samples, highlight reels, or previous broadcast footage (YouTube, Vimeo, Google Drive, or personal website).
