A primary goal of the Financial Operations department is to provide accurate and timely financial information to senior management and ownership to make informed business decisions. In addition, we oversee the day-to-day management of all finance functions and support other departments through various strategic projects and ad-hoc analyses. This position requires a detail-oriented, autonomous and motivated individual.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Be a key contributor in the company-wide financial reporting process; including detailed annual budgets, interim projections and monthly cash flow forecasts. This includes running scenario analyses and building multi-year pro-forma financial models with the ability to manipulate several underlying key assumptions 
  • Support senior staff in the daily tracking of major and minor league player transactions and salaries as part of the department’s responsibility surrounding the calculation and analysis of player payroll and luxury tax
  • Assist Financial Operations staff in the evaluation of prospective business arrangements, collective bargaining agreements, ticketing-related initiatives and/or changes to business practices 
  • Perform analytical reviews, financial modeling and ad-hoc analyses for various department heads to assist in the evaluation of their aspects of the business. Draw business insights and develop initial recommendations based on analyses performed
  • Analyze and evaluate current and historical financial information, including league-wide financial information, to better develop future projections and suggest improvements to business operations
  • Review daily concession & merchandise sales reports and prepare a summary of activity for each homestand, comparing to prior year actuals, current year budget and identifying reasons for fluctuations. Each report is to be distributed to the CFO and other members of executive management.
  • Gain an understanding of the MLB revenue sharing plan calculation, run scenario analyses to determine possible future outcomes and provide support for the annual MLB revenue sharing audit
  • Coordinate with Accounting department on certain month-end GL close procedures; such as comparison of YTD actual activity to budget, review of key reports to ensure timely reconciliation and investigating any significant differences or unusual account balances.
  • In conjunction with Financial Operations staff, prepare financial reporting packages to be submitted to MLB (interim and full-year updates, 3-year Long Range Plans)
  • Develop a detailed comprehension of departmental budgets, participating in the review and approval of potential purchases as compared to budget. 
  • Day-to-day execution of NYY’s game-used authentication program; including detailed tracking and recording of inventory. Includes in-game coordination with MLB representatives, grounds crew and clubhouse staff
Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Finance, Accounting or related field
  • 1-2 years of experience in accounting, financial analysis/reporting, investment banking, consulting or business development (may include internship experience)
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing work assignments
  • Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively at all levels both internally and externally
  • Ability to work extended hours including nights, weekends and holidays
The salary range for this position is $55,000-60,000 per year.
