Technical Leadership and Individual Contributions:
  • Provie oversight and expertise on various projects conducted by team members across Biomechanics, Strength and Conditioning, Sports Medicine, Skill Acquisition, Workload Management, Injury Prevention, Nutrition, and other areas related to Sports Science.
  • Plan and organize priorities for members of the Sports Science Team to ensure projects are completed in accordance with best practices to ensure quality of work.
  • Organize the homogenization of biomechanics information across various systems into a format that can help our research, player development, and player assessment efforts.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of infrastructure of systems used to ingest, process, and store data used for Sports Science Research.
  • Work with Baseball Systems team to advise the creation of reports and dashboards to responsibly communicate model implications to coaches, players, analysts, and front office decision makers.
  • Collaborate with Baseball Technology, Player Development, and R&D Leadership on identifying gaps in technology approaches and vetting vendors. Use statistical analysis tools to assess the quality of (new) data sources, potentially including wearables, assessments, force plates, on-field tracking, and biomechanics.
  • Drive the adoption of new techniques and encourage increased analytical maturity by leading the Sports Science Journal Club and performing other ad-hoc instruction.
Department Leadership:
  • Coordinate with the Director, Applied Analytics to ensure that Sports Science priorities are aligned with organizational goals.
  • Organize efforts to provide relevant information from multiple disciplines within Sports Science to stakeholders through detailed reporting that demonstrates the interplay of such information, and coordinate communication to enhance knowledge sharing between groups.
  • Support the Director, Applied Analytics in incorporating Sports Science knowledge into decision-making processes, including major acquisitions events like the Amateur Draft and Trade Deadline.
  • Develop internal members of Sports Science, improve their skillsets and help them advance in their careers, and leverage the group’s talents to continue to develop competitive advantages.
  • Identify team needs and conduct hiring efforts to supplement the Sports Science Team as needed.
Requirement Experience and Education:
  • Educational or work experience equivalent to a Graduate-level degree in Sport Science, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or other related fields.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of relevant work experience.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 
  • Experience in planning, advising and conducting research.
  • Data analyst experience: ability to interpret and analyze statistics.
  • Exceptional skill communicating complex statistical concepts.
  • Deep understanding of baseball.
  • Experience with statistical programs such as R, Python, Matlab, SPSS, Stata.
  • Experience with SQL Server.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and travel as needed (specific amount is negotiable).
 
Compensation:
The base salary range for this position is $85,000 to $120,000 annually. This role is also eligible for a performance-based bonus, which varies based on company and individual performance. Total cash compensation will depend on bonus payouts and will likely exceed base salary.
