Summary   
This position is primarily responsible for overseeing the overall care of the grounds in and around Brewers DR Academy practice fields, and the surrounding landscaping.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
include the following. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  Other duties may be assigned.
  • Oversee the recruitment, hiring, supervision and scheduling of a full-time crew (approximately eight persons) plus seasonal workers
  • Responsible for generation, implementation and management of annual department budget
  • Oversee grounds crew tasks on a daily basis including mowing, edging, weeding, sodding, overseeding, irrigation analysis, infield maintenance, and mound repair
  • Create turf management program including, but not limited to, fertilization, growth regulation, pesticide application and aeration
  • Oversees the implementation of game and practice responsibilities including set-up for batting/fielding practice, infield tarp application and in-game field maintenance on stadium field
  • Manage vendor relationships and supply procurement 
  • Consult regularly with Brewers Director – Grounds on standards for meeting consistent organizational standards and preferences
  • Communicates with coaches, scouts and minor league staff on a consistent basis, allowing for simple corrections of any functionality issues with the playing surfaces throughout the entire year
  • Work cohesively with Brewers DR Academy staff to construct and execute field calendar(s), ensuring quality field conditions, regardless of event load
  • Provides insight on Stadium Operations and the maintenance of structures, padding, netting, fences, etc. throughout the season
 
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises full-time staff of approximately eight and indirectly supervises all Seasonal employees in the Grounds and Landscape areas. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
 
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 
 
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university in turf grass management or related field; or five to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
 
Other Qualifications  
Must have a valid driver’s license.  Must have prior pesticide certifications and be able to obtain any necessary pesticide certifications.  Experience in field management at a professional baseball stadium or complex preferred.                 
 
Computer Skills  
To perform the job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft office software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, and Internet Explorer.     
 
Language Skills                                                 
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. English and Spanish speaking preferred. 
 
Mathematical Skills                                                      
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
 
Reasoning Ability      
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions, which may include heat, cold and various forms of precipitation.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
 
Work Hours                                                      
Regular business office hours are Monday-Friday 8am-4pm and Saturday 8am-2pm., however, additional hours will be required based on the schedule of games and other non-baseball events.  Availability will include weekends, evenings and holidays
