Organization Overview
The Great Lakes Loons are, the single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers and a member of the Midwest League, located in Midland, Michigan. The Loons play their home games at Dow Diamond, which opened in 2007. The playing surface at Down Diamond is a sand-based Kentucky Bluegrass field which underwent an entire field renovation in the fall of 2016, and won Midwest League Field of the Year in 2007 and 2009, 5th annual STMA Mowing Pattern Contest in 2017 and a Fields of Excellence winner from Pioneer Athletics in 2018. Dow Diamond hosts Loons home games along with local high school baseball games and various other non-baseball events.

Position Overview
The Great Lakes Loons are looking for qualified individuals who would like to pursue a career in sports turf management, candidates must be enrolled in a 2 or 4 year turf management program, or similar. A baseball background is preferred but not required. The position is paid hourly ($12.50/hour, 40-hours a week) and will receive meals during games and uniforms (hats and shirts). Housing is not provided, but can assist in finding housing. Start date of the job will be mutually agreed upon hire.
 
Requirements:
Candidates must be able to: 
  • lift 50lbs
  • stand and walk for extended period of time
  • work long hours including night, weekends and holidays
  • be able to multitask and work in a fast paced environment
  • have strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
  • Also must be able to pass a background check.

Responsibilities:
Duties for this position will include:
  • mowing, edging, sodding, clay and infield skin maintenance
  • small engine work
  • cultural practices (such as: topdressing, aerating, verti-cutting )
  • operating and repairing the irrigation system
  • applying fertilizer and other chemicals
  • tarp pulls
  • pre- and post-game set-up
  • and other duties as assigned.
