Position Summary
The Special Events Manager is a role within the Cedar Rapids Kernels’ Corporate Sales team. This position is designed to expand our non-baseball business opportunities by increasing bookings for The Annex (our indoor event space), driving sales for batting cage rentals, and growing both on-site and off-site catering events. The ideal candidate is a motivated sales professional with experience in event management and a passion for delivering exceptional client experiences.

Key Responsibilities
Sales & Business Development
  • Actively sell and promote The Annex to local businesses, organizations, and community groups for:
    • Batting cage rentals 
    • Business meetings and seminars
    • Private catered events
  • Promote and sell Kernels Catering for both in-venue and off-site events
  • Identify and pursue new markets and client segments to increase non-baseball event bookings
  • Develop and present tailored proposals to prospective clients based on their unique event needs
  • Work with existing clients on renewals and identify opportunities for upselling or package enhancements
  • Create sales campaigns and offers targeting specific event types (e.g. weddings, corporate events, expos)
Event Planning & Execution
  • Manage The Annex schedule and maximize utilization through proactive booking strategies
  • Ensure each event is properly staffed and executed at a high level
  • Coordinate with internal departments (e.g. operations, catering, marketing) to ensure all event needs are clearly communicated and fulfilled
  • Provide on-site support as needed to ensure the success of events
Non-Baseball Ballpark Event Sales
  • Utilize open stadium dates to sell and coordinate large-scale non-baseball events such as:
    • Trade shows
    • Craft fairs or bazaars
    • Weddings and receptions 
    • Corporate functions
    • Fundraisers and community events
    • Kernels Foundation events 
  • Collaborate with the sponsorship team to integrate sponsor packages into major non-baseball events

Qualifications
  • 1–3 years of professional experience in outside sales, preferably in events, hospitality, or entertainment
  • 1–3 years of experience in event management or coordination
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by event schedule

Work Schedule
  • Regular office hours: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Must be available to work outside standard hours for events, rentals, and meetings as needed
