Position Summary:
The Systems Administrator is responsible for effective day-to-day maintenance and operation of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. This individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. This individual ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational needs. This position will be working a set amount of games in which they will be an IT representative throughout the game.

Essential Functions:

SA Engineering:
  • Engineering of SA-related solutions for various project and operational needs;
  • Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements;
  • Oversee the health and function of the virtual server farm running VMWare;
  • Install and configure corporate enterprise systems using industry best practices;
  • Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures;
  • Contribute to and maintain current Marlins information technology system standards;
  • Research and recommend innovative, automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.

Operations and Support:
  • Supervisory responsibility for Enterprise help desk system (Dell/Kace) at Tier 2 and support the technicians at Tier 1;
  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups;
  • Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible vulnerabilities;
  • Anti-Virus server and client application maintenance;
  • Perform regular audits of current file systems within a business lifecycle approach;
  • Create, change, and delete or otherwise manage user accounts including VoIP accounts;
  • Provide transitional support for Tier III/other support per request from various constituencies. Investigate, troubleshoot and document findings for issues;
  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies.

  • Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary;
  • Upgrade and configure system software that supports GIS infrastructure applications or Asset Management applications per project or operational needs;
  • Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures. To include knowledge base and technical documentation;
  • Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning;
  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required;
  • Maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment.

Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Four-year university degree in CIS/MIS and/or 2+ years equivalent work experience in a SA role;
  • Windows / Mac OSX desktop support knowledge;
  • Microsoft family of Office / Server products working knowledge;
  • Working knowledge of infrastructure technologies; i.e. switches, routers, firewalls and cabling;
  • VMWare 5.x / 7.x Citrix XenDesktop and XenApp Management;
  • Maintenance/Management of enterprise NAS and SAN solutions;
  • Knowledge of iSCSI, FiberChannel, communications;
  • Dell KACE 2000 Asset/Image Management and patch management solution and SolarWinds NPM;
  • Microsoft Active Directory and Security best practices;
  • MCSA/MCSE, A+, N+ a plus;
  • Working knowledge of best practice backup policies and procedures;
  • Possess uncompromised ability to protect the confidentiality/privacy of others and company documents and records;
  • Must possess a strong ability to manage one’s time and prioritize tasks when given clearly defined goals and objectives;
  • Must be a flexible and reliable team player, both within own department and within company;
  • Strong communication skills: must be comfortable with engaging in a variety of different communicative modes (verbal, non-verbal, and written) and be attuned to others through strong active listening skills;
  • Must have a strong command of reasoned, measured decision-making processes based upon analyzing the pros and cons of each potential decision to be made;
  • Ability to work a pre-determined number of games/events every year on weekends, nights and holidays without exception
