This role focuses on comprehensive player care, including treatment, testing, evaluation, and monitoring to support return-to-performance outcomes. Responsibilities include assisting in developing and managing individualized rehabilitation, off-season programs, post-operative care, and corrective exercise plans, while collaborating closely with Sports Medicine & Performance staff to build player profiles and reduce injury risk. The position also provides leadership across the medical team, overseeing EMR quality, communicating health updates, and helping evaluate candidates for athletic training and internship roles. Overall, the role integrates hands-on clinical care with program development and organizational leadership.

 Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

 Communication:

  • Daily communication with manager, coaching staff & strength staff at affiliate.
  • Communication with affiliate ATC’s a level above & a level below for easy transition of players between levels.
  • Assist with coordinating player and staff appointments (Imaging, physician).
  • Inform Head Medical Coordinator and Medical Director of injury during daily activities that they may not be aware of; this allows communication during game with both Managers and Front Office.
  • Communication with Minor League SM&P staff throughout season to maintain and nurture relationships.
  • Monitor daily treatment reports from all affiliate medical staff, update Head Coordinator and Director as needed.
  • Monitor EMR and internal exercise/measurement programs to identify potential injury trends.

 

 Player Care: Treatment, Testing, Evaluation, Monitoring. Return to Performance:

  • Assist, evaluate & treat players’ movements / postures statically & dynamically.
  • Assist Head Medical Coordinator and Physical Therapist in the development, monitoring and management of player rehabilitation programs.
  • Assist in developing and monitoring off-season rehab and follow up plans.
  • Assist post-operative protocols alongside SM&P staffs.
  • Work closely with SM&P staff to assist and develop player testing protocols as we build individual player profiles to identify potential injury risk, return-to-performance protocols, and identify areas of potential player development.
  • Create & implement corrective exercise & preparation programs for players for both prevention & rehabilitative purposes based on previous injury history, current injury, postural & strength assessments.
  • Assist with distributing information to Medical Staff pertaining to new medical information, OSHA regulations, review of HIPAA regulations, organizational policies, drug testing information, etc

 Leadership

  • Provide leadership in conjunction with MLB Sports Medicine & Performance staff to members of Sports Medicine Team at other affiliates, as well as interns.
  • Monitor EMR records for quality and accuracy.  (daily/weekly/monthly basis)
  • Communicate with Head Medical Coordinator on affiliate health status.
  • Assist in interviewing and evaluating potential candidates for minor league athletic training positions & intern positions.

 

Education & Consultation

  • Educating players on self-maintenance and empowering them to take ownership in their development as a professional player.
  • Communicate with Director of Player Health & Minor League Medical Coordinator on rehab / DL process.
  • Research current scientific-based literature and trends in the field of health, wellness, nutrition, recovery, manual therapy, sports medicine & sports performance as they apply.
  • Continue self-growth & continuing education.
  • Assist in educating staff members along their developmental path.

 

Administration and Supply

  • Maintain daily treatment notes, as well as up-to-date medical files in AHMS.
  • Assist with organizing physical (pre-season & end of season) documentation and procedures.
  • Maintain cleanliness and professionalism of training room
  • Maintain file copies of necessary documentation.
  • Maintain all licensures & certifications pertaining to job responsibilities.
  • Assist in ordering medical supplies for Tulsa and monitoring supply budgets.
  • Assist in inventory of medical and rehabilitation supplies in Tulsa.
  • Assist in calibration and required services for therapeutic modalities.
  • Perform additional duties directed by Medical Director and/or Head Medical Coordinator as needed.

 Networking

  • Build relationships with ATC’s & strength coaches in your league for exchanging of ideas and continued growth as a professional.
  • Continue to build key relationships with local, national & international experts regarding sports performance, health & wellness in an effort to raise brand awareness and stay on the cutting edge of the field.

Specific to Affiliate

  • Send pre-game 40-man/priority player treatment log to designated parties.
  • Arrange and communicate player transportation to/from airport on player transfers.
  • Arrange hotel accommodations for first 3 nights when new players join the Tulsa roster.
  • Major league rehab communication with front office/med staff via text thread throughout game.
  • New player HR forms distributed to player and sent to Eric Jordan upon completion.
  • Perform entrance/exit physicals upon signing/releasing players at affiliate.
  • Collect driving waivers when players choose to driver personal vehicle upon transfer to another affiliate or when driving to away series.
  • Assist affiliate club as their extension to our players
  • Function as a contact person for a team hotel while the team is on the road.
  • Distribute flight information from Player Development to a player and coordinate transportation to/from airport.
  • Assist affiliate club and coaching staff to secure housing for the players.
  • Assist affiliate front office with team travel.
  • Scheduling and transportation, when necessary, for player / staff medical appointments.
  • Maintenance of affiliate athletic training room and equipment.
  • Assist visiting athletic trainer with scheduling of medical appointments.
  • Implementation and practice of emergency medical procedures.

 

Basic Requirements/Qualifications:

  • One to three years of experience working with professional (preferred) or college sports team
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with familiarity using medical terminology
  • Certified Athletic Trainer
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multiple stakeholder groups
  • Familiarity with EMR platform
