Overview:
The Los Angeles Angels are looking for a minor league dietitian that can be based near any major airport. This is a year-round position that will require attendance in Tempe, AZ at Spring Training from mid-February until April 1, at Instructional League from mid September – the end of October and Mini Camp for one week in January. During the competitive season an average of 3 weeks/month will be spent in person at affiliates: from April – November in Madison, AL, Salt Lake City, UT and Pasco, WA. This team member will provide medical nutrition therapy, performance nutrition education and will establish a safe food and supplement supply in accordance with MLB and MLBPA rules to enhance the development of each athlete in the high A, AA and AAA affiliates.

This position is also benefit eligible including: medical, dental and vision insurance, 401K eligibility; employee contributions after 3 months, employer matching and safe harbor after 1 year and 1000 hours of employment and additional perks not listed above. The expected salary for this position can range from $75,000-$85,000. Final offers for this role will be made within the parameters of the salary range provided. Years of experience, skills, and other factors are considered when determining the salary offered.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • To serve as the point of contact to execute the day-to-day nutrition needs for player fueling, health and performance in the rehab group, AA and AAA teams – including catering and food service logistics for affiliates at High A and for the AA and AAA levels.
  • Oversee nutrition education initiatives in the High A, AA and AAA.
  • Coordinating athlete nutrition care, measuring success and communicating results and relevant information to the MLB dietitian.
  • Onboarding newly drafted players in July/August to help them assimilate to professional baseball.
 
Duties:
  • Collaborate with sports performance team to establish player plans and season goals.
  • Create and educate players on individual fueling plans to support their growth and development.
  • Meet weekly in-season to report player plan progress and adjustments to Major League Sports Dietitian.
  • Coordinate in season meals with clubhouse managers, caterers and/or chefs at both home and away locations according to athlete needs and MiLB budget.
  • Travel to minor league affiliates, both at home and on the road, to meet individually with players, provide education, and evaluate the meals and snacks provided
  • Advise clubhouse managers regarding fueling resources available at each affiliate location.
  • Assess and analyze dietary habits, body composition, hydration practices and energy balance of players throughout the season and adjust fueling habits to enhance athletic performance and organizational goals.
  • Advise athletes on individualized nutrition strategies based on needs and/or goals

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree and Registered Dietitian (RD/N) Credential required.
  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics preferred
  • Spanish Speaking preferred
  • At least 1 year working with a veteran sports dietitian.

  • Ability to travel 14 - 21 days each month during the season to affiliates

Physical Demands:
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to be extremely active for periods of 4-5 hours at a time
  • Ability to work in inclement weather
  • Ability to work on uneven ground
