Job Title: UYA Nike RBI Coordinator (Seasonal)                     

Job Summary: The KC Urban Youth Academy Nike RBI Coordinator will focus on executing sports-based youth development programs to teach the game of baseball and softball, while simultaneously providing life-changing social and emotional learning for youth ages 5-18. This position will lead and oversee a youth league division while providing major league style baseball/softball instruction and training. 

The mission of the UYA is to empower Kansas’s City’s Urban Youth through baseball, softball, academic and social opportunities to be the leaders of tomorrow.  The UYA is a complex that features four outdoor fields, a press box for educational programming, and a 38,000 square-foot indoor facility. The indoor facility houses an MLB-sized turf infield, four batting tunnels, four classrooms, and an athletic training room.

Position Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
●       Provide baseball and/or softball instruction during scheduled programming and events at the UYA.
●       Be a liaison between Nike RBI League Coaches and UYA Baseball and Softball Director
●       Serve as coach to teach the fundamentals of baseball and softball, which includes facilitating practices to encourage youth participants to gain and develop life skills, knowledge, and techniques. 
●       Work with fellow coaches, coordinators, and Program Manager to develop, execute, and confirm practice plans to help players strengthen individual skills and team cohesiveness, while also developing life skills and intangibles necessary for team sports and life. 
●       Instruct and motivate players between the ages of 5-18, as well as evaluate players’ baseball and softball skills and provide constructive feedback for improvement.
●       Ensure pre- and post-game routines are being executed. 
●       Assist or become head coaches on UYA teams. 
●       Assist with additional programming such as clinics for baseball and softball, team try-outs and practices
●       Assist with various aspects of organizing or coordinating athletic events held at the UYA.
●       Work collaboratively to recruit new student athletes to programming.  
●       Model and display the utmost professionalism in appearance, customer service, and coaching behavior.
●       Always represents the Royals in a positive and professional manner.
●       Flexibility to work evenings and weekends.
●       Attend any training, meetings, and special initiatives that are requested by the UYA or Royals leadership team. 
●       Perform other duties as assigned, such as setting up equipment before programming as well as retrieving the same after the conclusion of programming. 
 
Position Qualifications, Skills, and Experience Required:
●       Demonstrated youth development experience preferred. 
●       Experience & knowledge of working with youth baseball and/or softball programs preferred.
●       Ability to learn Nike RBI Rules and Regulations 
●       Ability to lead a group of children by giving instruction in field settings. 
●       Demonstrated experience and emotional commitment to working with youth and families in a low-income, urban community.
●       Commitment to achieving the articulated objectives of the UYA for athletes, staff, and the community at-large.
●       Embody the qualities of a strong role model for the Academy’s participants. 
●       Minimum physical requirements: able to gain access to various areas of the UYA for prolonged periods during events; able to lift and transport up to 25 pounds.
●       Strong time management and organizational skills.
●       Possess a very high degree of discretion and professionalism.
●       Professional image and demeanor.
●       High School Diploma. Must be 18 years old.

 Physical Requirements: 
●       Ability to lift items weighing as much as 30 pounds 
●       Must be able to be productive in a work environment where the noise level can be high at times
●       Must be comfortable walking to navigate the facility to access the office, concourse, etc.
●       Must be able to work extended hours and/or weekends as required by deadlines and event scheduling
