Job Title: Urban Youth Academy- Field Trip & School Visit Coordinator (Seasonal)
Job Summary: The Kansas City Urban Youth Academy is a nonprofit organization with the mission to empower Kansas City’s urban youth to unlock their potential and become the leaders of tomorrow through baseball and softball.
The position is housed at the Urban Youth Academy (UYA) and is responsible for executing school-based programming that connects students to baseball, softball, and education through high-quality, structured field trips and in-school visits for K–6 students across the Kansas City metropolitan area. The coordinator will assist with program facilitation, logistics, student engagement, and on-site execution of UYA educational programming during the school day. This position is well suited for college students or recent graduates pursuing degrees in Sports Management, Exercise Science, Education, Recreation, or related fields, as well as individuals with experience working with youth in structured group environments.
Position Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
- Program Support: Support the facilitation of school field trips hosted at the Urban Youth Academy, including rotations, activities, and student transitions. Assist with in-school visits, including PE classes, assemblies, and classroom-based programming, across partner school districts
- Teach Fundamentals: Support baseball/softball-based activities, movement stations, and educational discussions
- Motivate and Engage: Serve as a positive, energetic role model for students in grades K–12
- Logistics and On-Site Operations
- Program Logistics: Assist with set-up and breakdown for field trips and school visits. Help manage student flow, schedules, and transitions throughout program days
- Safety and Emergency Protocols: Support attendance tracking, group management, and safety protocols: Ensure all safety protocols are followed during coaching activities, maintain a safe environment and be familiar with and able to execute emergency procedures if necessary.
- Communication: Maintain clear communication with teachers, chaperones, and UYA staff on-site. Provide feedback on program flow, student engagement, and opportunities for improvement
- Professionalism: Work closely with UYA staff to ensure programs run smoothly and on schedule. Model and display professionalism in appearance, customer service, and behavior
- Special Events: Attend and support special events connected to field trips, literacy initiatives, and educational partnerships
Position Qualifications, Skills and Experience Required:
- Experience working with youth (e.g., coaching, camps, schools, recreation programs, mentoring)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Reliable transportation and ability to travel locally to schools and program sites
- Ability to manage groups of students in active environments
- Professionalism, punctuality, and a team-oriented mindset
- Experience and knowledge of youth baseball and/or softball programs are preferred.
- Ability to lead and instruct a group of youth in field settings.
- Demonstrated experience and emotional commitment to working with youth and families in urban community.
- Dedication to achieving the UYA's goals for participants, staff, and the community.
- Embody the qualities of a strong role model for the UYA’s participants.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and remain active for extended periods
- Ability to demonstrate basic athletic movements and activities
- Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 25 pounds
- Must be able to be productive in a work environment where the noise level can be high at times
- Must be comfortable walking to navigate the facility to access the office, etc.
- Must be able to work extended hours and/or weekends as required by deadlines and event scheduling
