The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, the Triple‐A affiliate of the Miami Marlins and reigning Triple-A National Champions, are looking for a full time Events Assistant to come on board and join the Special Events Department with a focus on Non-Baseball Events. The Events Assistant role will encompass the selling, planning, execution and completion of non-baseball related events at VyStar Ballpark, with a variety of associated accountabilities. This position has a strong emphasis in relationship building skills and requires personal drive, determination, and hard work in a fun, fast-paced environment. This position will report to the Vice President of Promotions and Special Events.
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Work alongside the VP of Special events to enhance and grow the Special Events Department for the Jumbo Shrimp.
- Make outside sales calls to groups in the community to sell special events at VyStar Ballpark.
- Work with events from beginning to end including walk throughs, rate and contract negotiations, pre-event planning, food and beverage planning, staffing, load-in/out.
- Organize and schedule internal staffing and working with 3rd party vendors for set-up, tear down and execution of events.
- Work with our internal Food & Beverage team on all the details of catering menus for events.
- Provide exceptional customer service to clients and potential clients alike.
- Cultivate a strong working relationship with all team departments, including, but not limited to, operations, grounds, food & beverage, marketing and sales.
- Create leads rand develop long term relationships in the event planning, production and promotions communities to enhance events.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- At least two years of experience in the event industry is preferred
- Prior customer service and telemarketing/sales experience is highly desirable
- Possess a competitive drive and positive attitude; detail-oriented and adept at achieving goals and meeting targets
- Exceptional work ethic, strong desire to succeed, and eagerness to learn
- Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to multi‐task
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and writing) and listening skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently
- Must be proficient with computers and the Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to work a regular office schedule plus special events outside of normal business hours, including nights, weekends, and the occasional holiday
- College degree is preferred
- Ability to lift over 40 pounds and stand on your feet for long periods of time
