Overview: 
The Director of Marketing & Fan Experience is a strategic leader responsible for driving brand awareness, fan engagement, and revenue growth for the Durham Bulls and its Special Events. This role oversees an integrated marketing team focused on advertising, content, fan experience, ticketing support, and retail alignment. The Director will lead the creation and execution of comprehensive marketing strategies that align with broader business goals while protecting and elevating the Durham Bulls brand. 

This role requires a combination of strategic vision, team leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and data-informed decision-making. 


Key Areas of Responsibility 

Marketing Strategy & Operations 
  • Develop and execute integrated annual marketing plans to support ticket sales, retail, and special events. 
  • Manage media buying strategy across digital, print, radio, TV, and out-of-home platforms. 
  • Coordinate all cross-departmental marketing initiatives, timelines, and project management systems. 
  • Ensure consistent brand messaging across all internal and external communications. 

Brand & Content Leadership 
  • Oversee all content creation and platform strategy, including social media, website, email marketing, and podcast. 
  • Set creative direction for all campaigns, ensuring alignment with brand tone and visual identity. 
  • Collaborate with design and video teams to deliver compelling content and storytelling across platforms. 
  • Manage the content calendar to support key initiatives, player storylines, and community engagement. 

Fan Engagement & Game Experience 
  • Strategize and oversee all in-game entertainment elements, including promotional theme nights, mascot programs, and gameday activations. 
  • Lead efforts to grow and diversify the Bulls' fan base through targeted fan clubs, family programs, and community-driven campaigns. 
  • Ensure fan-facing programs are inclusive, accessible, and designed to increase both attendance and loyalty. 

Revenue Alignment & Cross-Functional Collaboration 
  • Partner with Ticketing, Sponsorship, and Retail teams to develop campaigns, assets, and packages that drive sales. 
  • Work closely with business intelligence to analyze data and optimize marketing performance. 
  • Track KPIs related to attendance, engagement, conversions, and sales across marketing channels. 

Team Leadership & Development 
  • Direct and mentor a diverse marketing team, including social media, creative, game production, and media relations professionals. 
  • Foster a high-performance culture of accountability, innovation, and collaboration. 
  • Align internal team structures and workflows with long-term organizational goals. 

Required Qualifications 
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in marketing, preferably in sports, live entertainment, or media. 
  • Demonstrated success in leading integrated marketing strategies that drive measurable business results. 
  • Experience managing creative, digital, and fan experience teams. 
  • Proven ability to translate audience insights and performance data into actionable strategy. 
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills, with the ability to lead multiple complex initiatives simultaneously. 

Preferred Skills 
  • Strong working knowledge of marketing platforms and tools, including email, web CMS, analytics tools, and paid digital media. 
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, After Effects, InDesign). 
  • Experience with fan data platforms like StellarAlgo or Fan Compass a plus. 
  • Deep knowledge of social media platforms, algorithms, and trends. 
  • Understanding of baseball or sports culture and the fan experience, including MLB/MiLB integration. 

Performance Metrics 
  • Growth in paid attendance and retail sales YoY 
  • Engagement rate and follower growth across digital and social platforms 
  • ROI on media spend and ticket promotions 
  • Email open and click-through rates 
  • Fan satisfaction and gameday experience feedback 
  • Team performance and employee development milestones
