Overview:
The Durham Bulls are seeking energetic, enthusiastic individuals who are interested in joining the most iconic brand in Minor League Baseball and gaining experience in the sports industry. This position will support the promotions department through game day entertainment initiatives to help put on the best show in Minor League Baseball by joining the Mascot Team. This is a part-time, seasonal, game day position but could include extra events depending on the demand of the characters. This is a part-time, seasonal, game day position.
Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
The performing characters include the Blue Monster and the Bull Durham Characters but could expand to other characters throughout the season. The ideal candidate must be energetic, work well with others, and engage fans of all ages.
This position must be able to:
- Maintain the integrity of the character’s personality
- Perform at assigned Durham Bulls home game or specifiedspecial events
- Interact and engage with fans including taking photos and signing autographs
- Work with the entertainment and promotions teams to provide entertainment for fans assigned in the game day script including skits, games and more
Required Qualifications:
- Must haveabilityto work evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Must be willing and able to perform continuously for up to two hours
- Must be able tolift upto 50lbs
- Maintain high performance levels in the costume through varying temperatures
Preferred Qualifications:
- Mascot Experience preferred
- Performance, dance, or acting background is a plus, but notrequired
- Preferred Height for Blue Monster is between 5'3" - 5'8"
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to perform continuously in a full-character costume for up to two-hour intervals,maintaininghigh energy, exaggerated movements, and the character’s personality throughout. Performance may include dancing, miming, andparticipatingin skits or on-field games
- Must be able to safely lift and maneuver costume pieces, props, or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires the ability to move with agility, bend, stoop, kneel, and perform simple choreography or gestures while wearing a restrictive, vision-impairing costume
- Must be able tomaintainperformance levels and personal safety while wearing a heavy, insulated costume in varying temperatures, including high heat and humidity typical of an outdoor stadium environment
- While non-verbal in costume,mustbe able to follow scripts and cues from handlers and the promotions team. Requires excellent spatial awareness to navigate crowded concourses, stairs, and standssafely while interacting with fans
Work Conditions:
- This role performs primarily outdoors in a stadium setting, exposed to all seasonal weather conditions. The internal temperature of the costume is significantly higher than theoutdoortemperature
- Must be available for all Durham Bulls home games, which include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Flexibility isrequiredfor extended hours toassistwith pre-game setup, in-game execution, and post-game teardown of promotional elements
- Work occurs in a high-energy, loud, and crowded public event environment. Performers interact closely with fans of all ages, including children,photos and autographs, requiring constant engagement and adherence to character
- Strict adherence to character guidelines, performance protocols, and costume care isrequired.Performersmust prioritize personal hydration and safety,utilizingprovided breaks and handler guidance
