Reports to: Media Relations Manager

Classification: Part-Time/Non-Exempt (Seasonal)

 

Summary/Objective:

The Field Timing Coordinator (FTC) is responsible for operating the pitch clock which determines the amount of time a pitcher can take between pitches/plays. The FTC is expected to meet with the umpiring crew before and after each game to discuss umpiring tendencies, signals and evaluate the FTC's role and is to accurately operate the stadium pitch clock in accordance with league rules.

 

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Operate the pitch clock in accordance with official league field timing rules
  • Submit electronic report of field timing info and violations after every game
  • Arrive at the ballpark no later than 60 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.
  • Check in with umpires before and after each game to ensure proper timing
  • Assist in the management of the replay system associated with the Automated Ball-Strike System
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Education and/or Experience & Skills:

  • Familiarity with the official Field Timing rules and policies
  • Strong knowledge of baseball
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong ability to focus consistently for multiple hours at a time
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Standard comfort with basic technology
  • High level of professionalism with ability to thrive in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Superior attention to detail and deadline orientation.
  • Ability to work efficiently

 

Work Environment

This job operates in a press-box setting.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. 

 

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

 

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a part-time position and hours are strictly tied to Sugar Land Space Cowboys home games during the 2023 season.  Due to the nature of this position, the position requires hours of work and days that include frequent nights, weekends, and holidays.

 

Travel:

No travel is expected for this position.
