Summary:
The Astros Golf Foundation, proud host organization of Houston’s PGA TOUR event, the Texas Children’s Houston Open, is seeking a Volunteer & Charity Intern to support our team in preparation for this marquee tournament. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, assisting with volunteer recruitment and scheduling, coordinating event-day logistics, supporting program communications, and maintaining program records. In addition to the Texas Children’s Houston Open, this internship will also involve supporting other high-profile events produced by the Astros Golf Foundation. The selected individual must be professional and able to manage a significant volume of confidential information with discretion.

This candidate will work directly with the Volunteer & Charity Coordinator.  This internship also includes the opportunity to work collaboratively with other Texas Children’s Houston Open departments, such as Operations, Ticketing, Sponsorship, Finance, and Retail. 

 

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

Assist and support the tournament staff with tasks including, but not limited to:

  • Actively recruit volunteers to support the tournament
  • Assist individuals with volunteer registration
  • Updates training decks and orders supplies for Volunteer Committee Chairs
  • Assist Volunteer Coordinator with meetings, credential/uniform packaging, and uniform distribution
  • Manage volunteer meals during tournament week with Volunteer Coordinator
  • Manage charity load in/out during tournament week
  • Assist with post tournament needs

Volunteer Administrative Duties

  • Manage volunteer scheduling and reporting
  • Track volunteer budget
  • Coordinate outreach for raffle items and meals
  • Support volunteer recruitment
  • Administer Birdies for Charity program and related raffles

Volunteer Operational Duties

  • Prepare supply lists and distribute uniforms
  • Manage credentials and booth setup
  • Assist with volunteer party setup and committee operations
  • Coordinate volunteer meals and BFC booth activations
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Education and/or Experience & Skills:

  • At least Junior level college/university student or graduate student enrolled in a related field (Sports Management, PGA Management, Hospitality, Business Management) between January & May
  • Reside or willing to relocate to/near the Houston, Texas area from January 5-May 15, 2026, at your own expense.
  • Have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation to commute to Memorial Park Golf Course office and to offsite locations
  • Must have a desire to gain experience in a professional sports and entertainment environment.
  • Have a strong, interpersonal skills that complement a proactive, solution driven, team-oriented work ethic
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and handle numerous assignments simultaneously.
  • Comfortable making phone calls and meeting with clients/vendors/volunteers/non-profits
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint) and internet software (Trust Event and Partner HQ)
  • Ability to maintain discretion concerning confidential information
  • Knowledge of golf and golf events is not a requirement but a plus

 

Work Environment

This job will operate in both an office and golf course setting. The noise level is usually moderate but can be loud within the golf course environment. This role can require physical work and will sometimes require work in the elements (wind, rain, warm, cold, etc.).  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopier. 

 

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and focused vision. Ability to lift, carry, and move items weighing up to 50lbs. Ability to walk long distances and/or stand for long periods of time. 

 

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a paid internship.

Typical hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Interns are required to be onsite during the week of the Texas Children’s Houston Open, as well as for all other events produced by the Astros Golf Foundation throughout the period of their internship.

 

Travel:

This position does not require travel.
