Summary

We’re seeking a Player Development Analyst to support Baseball Operations and Player Development through advanced data analysis and predictive modeling. In this role, you’ll turn complex baseball data into actionable visuals, dashboards, and tools that players and coaches can interact with. You’ll collaborate with coaches and leadership, automate reporting processes, and deliver clear visualizations to drive data-informed decisions across hitting, pitching, and development programs.

 

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Research, develop and test mathematical, statistical and predictive models to support Player Development in player evaluation, ad hoc projects, and automation of tasks.
  • Prepare and explore a variety of baseball data sets and construct workflows to utilize this data.
  • Serve as a dedicated analytics resource for Player Development, to support the departments of hitting, pitching, and development.
  • Collaborate with coaches, coordinators, and front-office leadership to translate analytical insights into actionable strategies.
  • Conduct research aimed at advancing the organization’s understanding of baseball performance, trends, and strategic opportunities.
  • Develop visualizations and reports to communicate complex findings clearly and effectively.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline Player Development processes; design and implement automated solutions for recurring processes such as post-game and after-action reporting.
  • Present research findings, recommendations and reports to players and coaches at the affiliates, fostering data-driven decision-making throughout the department.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment between analytical findings and player development goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Education and/or Experience & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in statistics, engineering, applied math, physics, quantitative social sciences, computer science, operations research or similar field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Ability to communicate technical ideas to non-technical audiences using data visualization.
  • Demonstrated work ethic, passion for baseball, and strong baseball knowledge, including familiarity with current baseball research and analysis.
  • Proficiency with R/Python or similar statistical programming languages.
  • Strong ability to visualize data sets.
  • Experience with machine learning techniques or video processing is preferred.
  • Experience with player tracking data or biometric data sets is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is preferred.

 

Work Environment

This job operates in a clerical, office setting.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. The noise level is usually moderate but can be loud within the stadium environment. 

 

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This is a largely sedentary role. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms and carry up to 40lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and focused vision. 

 

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

Ability to work a flexible schedule, including; extended hours, evenings, weekends and holidays.

 

Travel

Travel to Spring Training (West Palm Beach, FL) will be required for the role. Travel during the season could include visits to Houston Astros affiliates.
