Summary/Objective:

The Houston Astros are currently seeking an International Scouting Assistant in the Pacific Rim region. The responsibilities include collecting and uploading data and video of international players in the assigned region as well as assisting with schedule organization and prospect identification. The International Scouting Assistant will be an independent contractor and the position will be based in Taiwan.

20 or less work hours per week are required for the International Scouting Assistant position.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Independently collect and organize prospect information in the assigned region.
  • Collect, organize, and upload player data to streamline evaluation across player market.
  • Shoot, edit, and upload video.
  • Communicate with Houston-based staff and regional scouting staff to provide insights on how to improve collection processes and efficiency.
  • Interact with trainers, coaches, and others throughout the baseball community to effectively identify and evaluate prospective talent.
  • Interact with Houston-based staff and regional scouting staff to ensure effective coverage of region through scouting looks, data capture, and additional information sources as required.
  • Evaluate players and communicate interest level through oral and written channels.

  

Qualifications:

  • Mandarin fluency preferred.
  • English language proficiency required, with fluency a plus.
  • Valid passport for international travel required.
  • Strong baseball knowledge and foundation for evaluation abilities required.
  • Experience in the international baseball market, particularly in assigned region as a player, coach, scout, executive, etc., is preferred.
  • Foundational understanding and appreciation of baseball analytics preferred.
  • Professional playing experience a plus.
  • General proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is required, with advanced skills a plus.
  • Experience operating cameras and baseball technology strongly preferred.
  • Experience with SQL and SQL databases a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals including scouts, players, trainers, and front office members.
  • Demonstrated passion for baseball and intellectual curiosity.
